Areas and Perimeters – Revision Task 2.

1. A new garden has been designed as shown below (plan view). The area shown is required to be
turfed and we need to calculate the area required so that we can order the correct amount.
Calculate the area in m2 to two decimal places?

2. The company supplying the turf advise that to allow for wastage it is best to round the number
of square metres to the nearest whole number. Round the above value to the nearest whole
number. (Note: in this case you would normally round up to the nearest whole number)

3. The turf supplier has three choices for the turf. Calculate the final cost for each of the following:

a. Bronze Turf – £1.92 per square metre


b. Gold Turf - £2.40 per square metre
c. Artificial Turf - £8.49 per square metre

4. The turf has to be edged with the wooden edging shown here.
Calculate the amount of edging required in metres (ie the perimeter).

5. The edging above comes in 1.5 m lengths. How many lengths will you need in total?

6. The edging costs £6.50 per length (1.5m). How much will the total amount of edging cost?

7. What is the total cost for the materials above?

8. The costs above do not include vat, calculate the total cost including vat (20%).

9. You estimate that it will take 20 hours in total to carry out the work required. Your hourly rate is
£25.99. What is the total labour cost?
