Abstract

Effective fire protection in power plants requires tailored solutions to safeguard infrastructure
and equipment, minimizing operational disruptions. However, these solutions often demand
substantial water volumes for optimal effectiveness. Malita Power Plant, a coal-fired thermal
plant has only one viable source- the Culaman River, both for its Industrial Water and Fire Water
Source. The threat of climate change presents a significant challenge to the facility’s fire
suppression, and it becomes imperative to minimize its water consumption. This paper presents
utilization of boiler wastewater as a medium for its fire suppression system and establish fire-
sprinkler design on its coal-forwarding lines.

The purpose of the project is to design sprinkler system in the facility’s coal-forwarding lines
with the use of treated boiler wastewater in order give a reasonable degree of protection of
equipment and conveyor belts from spontaneous combustion and as well as to minimize the
plant’s water consumption. The engineering designs considered in this project are boiler
wastewater treatment along with its process and fire sprinkler system characteristic.
