JOB TITLE: Site Manager


REPORTING TO: Project Manager / Package Manager

Overall Job Purpose:


• To lead and manage the site activities, and work in a safe, profitable, planned manner
to achieve the programme and deliver a quality product and service in line with the
Line of Sight.
• To develop and maintain positive relationships, and to promote and protect the
Octavius reputation whilst remaining customer focused and in line with Company
policies and values.
• To lead by example by engendering the collaborative culture throughout the site team,
including suppliers and customers, ensuring that everyone works towards our common
vision of a vibrant delivery mechanism that delivers on promises, chosen by customers
and has safety at its core.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
• Customers: A delighted customer that prefers Octavius for the delivery of their projects.
The customer is informed, engaged and delighted with project performance and the
travelling end users have an improved experience in and around our infrastructure
projects.
• Customer engagement at key stages of each project
• Understanding our existing customer’s current and future needs; lead customer
focused and collaborative Site Teams to exceed customer expectations
• Ensure that the customer is considered at all stage of planning and delivering of your
project
• Ensure projects are delivered to a high quality and service and that projects and
deliverables are closed out effectively and in a timely manner
• Ensure Customer progress meetings are attended by the appropriate personnel and
information is presented clearly and professionally
• Customer feedback is sought at regular intervals. The feedback is to be generally
positive in nature, with any areas of concern quickly addressed and improved in
subsequent feedback
• Supplier feedback is sought and is generally positive in nature. Put in place action
plans to improve areas identified as a weakness
• Engaging with local communities to aspire to create a positive impact through our
projects

• Brand: Promote the Octavius culture and lead by example by demonstrating the agreed
values and behaviours in all interactions with the team, including suppliers and
customers. Create a culture that is underpinned by professionalism and quality.
• Ensuring you live the Octavius values and hold the team to account to live by the
same values
• Demonstrate the agreed behaviors in all dealings with your team, including customers
and suppliers. Ensure that disputes are resolved quickly and fairly
• Set a high benchmark for the professionalism and quality that we want our
reputation to reflect, dealing with any examples of mediocrity in the appropriate way
• Communicate clearly the expected values and behaviours throughout the team,
including all levels within the supply chain
• Leadership: A fully accountable leader of the site team that leads by example follows

Promotes a site safety culture that focuses on leadership at all levels with everyone
going home safe, every day.
• Managing the contract including the agreed contract programme
• Leading in a manner which sets an example to others and promotes a positive
attitude and environment
• Ensure clear accountability is provided through your team, with clear outcome based
roles and responsibilities
• Ensure agreed behaviours are in place and consistent across the team
• Giving your people the tools needed, allowing them to make decisions aligned with
their responsibilities
• Ensure that the Vision and Strategy for the Octavius team is well communicated and
engaged with including throughout the supply chain
• Creating and delivering on learning opportunities. Encourage the team to develop
themselves and to grow
• People: To adhere to an efficient set of Octavius systems and processes. Ensure that
legislative, Octavius and customers’ mandatory policies and procedures are delivered
appropriately within a governance framework.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, company policies and procedures
including the Octavius and customer Governance process
• Understand and correctly implement the requirements of the NEC contract
• Ensuring that ‘basic’ processes such as Supplier schedules, daily diaries, weekly
schedules, programme monitoring / mark up are in place
• Timely and accurate reporting to senior management on site activities, including any
supply chain activities
• Only employing processes that add value to your customers and people
• Effective management of risk and opportunity and sharing of best practice
• Provide clarity of purpose, accountability and performance targets for all members of
the team enabled by them having the appropriate skills and tools

• To be accountable for Community Relations on site and to look for opportunities for
community engagement by the site team
• Ensuring the management and clearance of any defects
• Accountable for Project Close out and production of all deliverables including HS Files
• Process: To adhere to an efficient set of Octavius systems and processes. Ensure that
legislative, mandatory policies and procedures are delivered appropriately within a
governance framework.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, company policies and procedures
• Ensure your team understand and correctly implement the requirements of the
relevant conditions of contract used on projects
• Meeting teams and providing guidance and advice on correct processes both on and
off site ensuring that we only employ processes that add value to your customers and
people
• Timely and accurate reporting to senior management on site activities, including any
supply chain activities
• Effective management of risk and opportunity, including regular reviews
• Sharing of best practice and lessons learnt across the sector
• Work to increase the use of IT to improve efficiency, particularly on sites to reduce
the volume of paperwork provided
• Provide clarity of purpose, accountability and performance targets for all members of
the team enabled by them having the appropriate skills and tools
• To be accountable for the delivery strategy of their Projects
• To be accountable for Community Relations on site and to look for opportunities for
community engagement by the site team
• Ensuring the management and clearance of any defects in a timely manner
• Accountable for Ensuring efficient Project Close out and production of all deliverables
including HS Files
• Financial: Accepting accountability for profit and loss for our projects, successfully
return a profitable outcome, in line with the agreed site targets. Be aware of and
understand Octavius’ target to deliver volumes within the customer efficiency targets
and the delivery of a progressive turnover growth with a sustainable profit before tax.
• Understanding of the project’s financial position through regular and robust reviews
with the commercial team of CVCs and Cost Plans
• Robust regular review of contract programme
• Assisting in Supplier selection and engagement with shared and open discussions on
risks and rewards
• Maximising profitability through detailed cost control and ensuring that an effective
change control process is in place to record changes. Ensure the contract is
administered appropriately
• Training, coaching and mentoring other members of staff as appropriate

• Sharing knowledge and best practice including feedback to development, driving
continuous improvement year on year
• Efficient delivery through innovative solutions and close engagement with key
stakeholders in high risk areas such as access, design and scope
• Robust, effective and appropriate project risk and opportunity management
• Ensuring that risks on each project are clearly understood by all and mitigated
accordingly
• Understanding and implementing actions from ‘lessons learnt’ meetings
• Closing out projects effectively and speedily, with a right first time approach to
snagging and Health and Safety files that are produced as the work progresses and
handed over on completion

• Also sets clear line management targets for the members of the site team. Meets
targets set by own manager and is focused on developing capability further.
• Identifies individuals on site who are keen to develop further

Experience and knowledge:


• Has worked on a broad section of disciplines such as groundwork’s, RC structures,
steelwork, and building and can demonstrate a clear understanding in these areas.
• Experienced at working within an Infrastructure environment.
• Experience of personal responsibility in managing projects up to £3 million.
• SMSTS competent.
• Correct CSCS card.
• PTS (if required) and other identified training.
• Good level of IT skills.
• Good level of programming and Conditions of contract (NEC, ICE etc.) knowledge.

Qualifications:
• Has an industry recognised qualification such as a Degree, HND, NVQ or similar in a
Civil Engineering/Building or related course.
• Alternatively has gained similar qualities through work related training and experience.
