The ACA has undoubtedly been a successful extender of healthcare access; however, courts and

legislatures are resisting it, which may, in the end, negatively impact its admirable purpose.
Another negative impact is that the lawsuit leads to a court battle, only adding to the confusion
millions of Americans and those relying on the ACA for healthy insurance coverage are already
experiencing. The drama has now escalated with the disputes and disagreements over health care
reform, both among Congressmen and the way it should be operated.

The individual mandate penalty abandonment occurred in 2019, one of the most prominent
historical events in the history of the ACA. This means that from then on, uninsured people were
no longer required to pay a fine for not having one. Interestingly, the individual mandate
concept, a cornerstone element, aimed to level the playing field by eliminating the need for a
healthy population or individuals to cover the sick and expensive. One example is the case of
individuals covered by an insurance plan who do not need to be insured. As a result, they may
abandon the plan, a phenomenon known as the "insurance death spiral." When insurance pools
no longer maintain equilibrium, consisting of a manageable proportion of individuals with a
higher risk of premature death, they must increase premium costs, leading to the abandonment of
healthy individuals.
