Cambodia
There are 213 landfills across the country, including 142 state-owned sites and 70 private
yards, and Pheaktra said current urban and district waste generation growth is
between 10% and 12% per year.

2. Thailand
In Thailand, there are 70 legally-approved landfills in operation today in addition to 1,888
open dumping sites around the country(1).

Semakau Landfill is Singapore’s one and only landfill. It receives more than 2,000 tonnes
of WTE incineration ash and non- incinerable waste daily.

6. Malaysia
According to the National Solid Waste Department, Malaysia currently has 165
landfills, eight sanitary landfills, and three inert landfills for materials such as
sand and concrete. Local environmental experts have forecasted no space will
be available by 2050 if nothing is done to reduce waste.

7. Indonesia
The number of landfills in Indonesia currently stands at 532. The country has
2,506 sites for waste-reducing, reusing, and recycling (TPS 3R), 13,716 waste
banks, 4,118 composting sites, 291 creative product facilities, and 32 waste-to-
energy management facilities.

8. Vietnam
Nearly 80% of 904 landfill sites in Vietnam were unsanitary and polluted the
environment while about 35,000 tons of domestic wastes were buried every day, state
media cited a report on environment protection work in 2020 as saying.

9. Philippines
The COA report said, as of 2021, there are 245 operational sanitary landfills.

10. Myanmar
There are only six existing dumping sites in Myanmar, which are in Hlaw Gar
township, Shwe Pyi Thar township, Htain Bin township, Data township, Kyi Su
township and Htawe Chaung township.
