The five most visited state parks in 2023 were:
• Giant Springs State Park, Great Falls – 584,810 visitors
• Flathead Lake State Park (all units), Flathead Lake –
332,063 visitors
• Spring Meadow Lake State Park, Helena – 169,348
visitors
• Lake Elmo State Park, Billings – 165,041 visitors
• Cooney Reservoir State Park, Roberts – 148,344 visitors
Visitation data for state parks:
Western Montana: FWP saw an estimated 1,359,538
visitors across its 24 western parks (Flathead Lake unit
includes six parks), a 3.3 percent increase in visitation
compared with 2022, and a 23.8 percent increase from
2019. In 2022, a new park, Somers Beach, was added to the
parks system. Many parks in western Montana continue
to show an increase in visitation after record numbers in
2020 and 2021.
Central Montana: FWP saw an estimated 1,484,293
visitors across its 23 central parks, an estimated 1.7
percent increase in visitation compared with 2022 and a
11.9 percent increase from 2019.
Eastern Montana: FWP saw an estimated 264,438
visitors across its seven eastern parks, an estimated 1.4
percent increase in visitation compared with 2022 and a
42.1 percent increase from 2019. In 2022, management
of Hell Creek State Park was transferred, and visitation
estimates have not been calculated since.

The District 3C Track and Field Championships saw athletes with PRs to highlight
the day in Wolf Point. Eighty three PRs were set during the day. The top eight in the 800 were
PRs, top four in the 3200 and top four of the five.
Terran Joseph and Prestyn Klatt were triple-winners in leading Lustre Christian to
the team championship. Johnslee Pierre was a double-winner. The Lions relay teams also
won. The Lions coasted to the win over Scobey, 163-106. Nashua was third with 70, Circle
had 55, Saco 52, Frazer 30, Dodson 27, Hinsdale 14 anc Whitewater 6.
Joseph recorded two PRs in his three wins. He ran an 11.20 in the 100 and 51.52 in
the 400. He also had a 23.52 in the 200. Klatt also had two PRs, running a 2:12.24 in the 800
and an 11:08.78 in the 3200. The sophomore also ran a 4:5.05 in the 1600. Pierre ran a 40.92
in the 300 hurdles and flew 21-feet in the long jump. He was second in the 110 hurdles with
a PR of 16.09. Emeka Aniobi, Byron Ewing, Brian Guedes, and Joseph ran a 45.32 to win the
4X100 relay. Guedes, Ewing, Joseph, and Pierre ran a 3:40.38 to win the 4X400 relay. Guedes
had a PR of 12.05 for fourth place in the 100 and went 18-09.50 for third in the long jump.
Ewing ran a 25.27 for sixth in the 200, a PR of 55.02 for fourth in the 400 and sixth in the
discus at 99-09. Diek Olfert followed Klatt in the 800, running a PR of 2:14.20 and a PR of
5:29.85 for fifth in the 1600. Hadden Olfert was sixth in the 800 with a PR of 2:21.98. Ifeanyi
Aniobi was fourth in the 110H with a PR of 18.86. Cam Reddig ran a PR of 20.74 for sixth
in the 110H, ran a 48.88 for fourth in the 300H, went 5-04 for sixth in the high jump and was
sixth in the triple jump at 37-04.50. Mason Hilkemann was third in the shot put with a PR
toss of 40-02.75 and fifth in the discus at 1040-01.
Caden Laumeyer was a double-winner and Damon Adkins had a win in leading
Nashua. Laumeyer had a PR of 41-feet, 3-inches in the shot and threw the discus 124-feet.
Adkins had a PR of 152-feet, 7-inches in the javelin. The Porcupines scored well in the field
events. Grady Nielsen was fourth in the sh0t with a 39-04.25. Noah Leckie went a PR 8-feet
in the pole vault for fifth. EvRhet Pugh went 37-05 for fourth in the triple jump. On the
track, Charlie Kaasa ran a PR of 11:36.33 for second in the 3200. The Porcupines 4X100 relay
ran a 50.10 for third. Running a leg on the team were Adkins, Laumeyer, Nielsen, and Pugh.
The 4X400 was fourth with a 4:17.34. Running on this team were Adkins, Kaasa, Jackson
Abern, and Pugh.
Blaine Downing led the Saco Panthers. The junior won the pole vault, going 14-feet.
He was second in the 100 with a 11.36, third in the 200 with a PR of 23.85, second in the 400
with a 51.60 and third in the high jump at 5-10. Laytin Erickson was fifth in the 110H with
a PR of 19.47, fifth in the 300H with a PR of 48.90, fifth in the high jump at 5-06 and went
10-feet in the pole vault for third. Jacob Brown had a PR throw of 125-06 in the javelin for
fifth.
For the Frazer Bearcubs, Ty Fourth scored in leading the team. The senior had a PR
throw of 140-10 in the javelin for second, fourth in the high jump at 5-06 and ran a PR of
49.45 in the 300H for sixth. Gabe Beston ran a PR of 11:42.60 for third in the 3200 and took
sixth in the 1600 with a 5:30.75. Beston, Christopher Fox, Joseph Beston, and Travis Long ran
a leg of the 4X100 relay team that finished sixth with a 54.97. Joseph Beston had a PR toss of
30-feet, 2.75-inches i n the shot for second. Fox was sixth in the javelin with a PR of 118-01.
Kade Strommen led Hinsdale, taking second in the pole vault at 11-feet, The Raiders
4X100 relay ran a 53.42 for fifth. Jaydeen Hanshew, Strommen, Linden Holt, and Coy
Bowman ran a leg. Hanshew went 125-11 in the javelin for a PR and fourth place.
For Whitewter, Tyler Scheffelmear had a PR 38-06.25 in the shot for fifth and Korbyn
Skuvinna was fourth in the pole vau;lt at 9-feet

Brown leads Panthers

Wolf Point seems to be the place to be for the track and field athletes. Josie Brown
of Saco likes the track as the senior ended Saturday with five wins.
The District 3C championships were held in Wolf Point with 47 PRs set. *There
was no times reported for the 300 hurdles and 3200.
Scobey ran away with the team title with 140.5 points. Saco followed with 118,
Whitewater had 83, Hinsdale 78.5, Circle 52, Nashua 26, Lustre Christian 15, Dodson 7
and Frazer 3.
Brown had two PRs, running a 26.17 in the 200 and 59.32 in the 400. Her other
wins came in the 100, 12.75, 100 hurdles, 16.05 and 300H.36
Teagan Erickson was a double-winner in the jumps. The senior went 15-feet,
8.50-inches in the long jump and 34-feet, 1-inch in the triple jump. She was second in the
high jump at 5-feet, had a PR of 34-10.50 for second in the shot put and second in the
javelin with a 117-01. Emerson Downing was the other winner, going 9-feet in the pole
vault for a PR. She was fifth in the 100H with a PR of 18,28, fourth in the 300H, fifth in
the javelin at 97-05 and fourth in the triple jump at 30-11.50. Ireland Mears took fifth in
the 400 with a 1:08.88.
Whitewater had a pair of winners in Paige Wasson and Shelbi LaBrie. Wasson
won the javelin with a PR throw of 131-feet, 9-inches. She also was third in the 400 with
a 1:04.26 Shelbi LaBrie won the 1600 with a 5:15.74, second in the 800 with a PR of
2:18.99. Ava Hanley took sixth in the 100 with a 14.40, fifth in the 200 at 30.17. Kendall
Scheffelmear took fourth in the 100H with a 17.99, third in the 300H and second in the
triple jump at 32-08. Sommer Green was third in the discus with a PR throw of 85-05.
Gracie Wasson took third in the pole vault with a PR of 8-06. Kennedy Simonson finished
fourth in the triple jump at 30-03.50. The Penguins 4X400 relay finished second with a
4:22.75. Scheffelmear, Simon son, LaBrie and Paige Wasson ran a leg.
BaiLee McColly was the only winner for Hinsdale. The sophomore cleared the
high jump bar at 5-feet to edge Teagan Erickson, had a PR of 17.84 in the 100H for third,
had a PR of 103-11 in the javelin for fourth and was third in the long jump at 14-05.50.
CharLee McColly ran a 14.05 in the 100 for fourth, had a 29.15 for third in the 200, a
31-11.50 for third in the shot and a PR of 7-06 in the pole vault for fourth. Zora Holt took
third in the 1600 with a time of 6:10.33 and was second in the 3200. Kodi McColly took
second in the discus at 89-05, Lyli Bear was fourth at 82-09 The Raiders 4X100 relay ran
a 58.33 for third. Running on the team were Addison Idler, CoharLee McColly, Layne
Jones, and Holt.
Katey Dykstra scored points for Nashua. The freshman took second in the 100
with a PR of 13.24, fourth in the 200 with a 29.25.5, fourth in the high jump at 4-feet and
second in the long jump with a PR of 15-05. Dyllan Bergstrom ran a 6:44.26 in the 1600
for fifth.
For Lustre Christian, Abby Olfert had a PR run of 30.23 in the 200 for sixth and
took fifth in the long jump at a PR of 13-05.75. Lauryn Holzrichter was sixth in the 300H
and sixth in the triple jump at 28-01. The Lions 4X100 relay ran a 58.71 for fourth and
was third in the high jump at 4-02. Running on the team were Holzrichter, Jaden Gibson,
Rachel Pew, and Olfert.
Frazer’s 4X100 relay ran a 1:00.76 for fifth with Maci Fourstar-Sibley, Bailey
Beston, Isabelle Even, and Lola Romero running a leg. Fourstar-Sibley took sixth in the
3200. Hilkemann was third in the shot put with a PR toss of 40-02.75 and fifth in the
discus at 1040-01.
EDUCATION CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS
Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society of women educators,
is offering scholarships in the amount of $500 to be applied to the 2024-2025 school
year. Scholarship Requirements: Applicants must be (1) a graduate of any high school
within Valley County and must have a sophomore status or higher (copy of transcript)
in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in education at any accredited college or university.
(2) A teacher employed by a Valley County School District (copy of pay stub) who is
working on an advanced degree in education.
