Ang boundary lubricated bearings ay gamit ang manipis na layer ng lubricant para bawasan

ang friction sa pagitan ng sliding surfaces. Ito'y parang proteksyon para maiwasan ang pagkiskis
at pagkasira. Ginagamit ito sa mga makina tulad ng sa kotse at industriya. Mahalaga ang pagpili
at pag-aalaga ng lubricant para tumagal at magperform nang maayos ang mga ito.
Factors :
1. Friction A low coefficient of friction means it's easier for things to move, which is good
for bearings because it means less energy wasted and less wear and tear. Different
materials and treatments can change how much friction there is, so picking ones that slide
easily under the bearing's conditions is important.

2. Pv Factor: the PV factor indicates the combined effect of pressure and velocity on a
bearing's performance. It helps select suitable materials and lubrication to prevent
friction, wear, and overheating, ensuring the bearing operates effectively and lasts longer.

3. operating temperature is critical for bearings because it affects lubricant effectiveness,

material strength, clearance, seal integrity, and overall performance and reliability.
Design Procedure for Continuously Rotating Shafts in Bearing
Information: Radial load (F), Speed of rotation (n), Nominal minimum shaft diameter
(Dmin).
Steps:
• Specify Trial Diameter (D
• Determine L/D Ratio ,Compute Bearing Length (L)= D(L/D) and Specify
Convenient Length (L)
• Compute pV and Design Value
• Material Selection (Table 16-1) and Cd from Table 16-4
4. Wear
5. Production: For production factors, designers can ensure that the chosen material not only
meets performance requirements but also allows for cost-effective manufacturing,
assembly, and maintenance processes, ultimately enhancing the overall efficiency and
reliability of the mechanical system.
Full Film- Lubricated System
full-film hydrodynamic bearings play a crucial role in supporting rotating machinery by
providing effective lubrication and reducing friction, thereby extending the service life of
mechanical components and improving overall system efficiency.
Fig 16-5 a) n. At start-up, the radial load applied through the journal to the bearing forces the journal off
center in the direction of the load, taking up all clearance [Figure 16–5(a)].
b. At the initial slow rotational speeds, the friction between the journal and the bearing causes the journal to
climb up the bearing wall, somewhat as shown in Figure 16–5(b
C. Eccentricity refers to how much a rotating shaft deviates from being perfectly centered within its bearing.
It affects load distribution and can lead to increased friction, wear, and vibration in machinery.

Therefore: boundary lubrication bearings rely on a thin layer of lubricant molecules to

reduce friction between sliding surfaces, but direct metal-to-metal contact can occur under
high loads or low speeds. On the other hand, full film hydrodynamic bearings use a
continuous lubricating film created by fluid pressure to completely separate rotating and
stationary components, providing smoother operation and better load support.
