P. G. Department of Botany, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar-751004, Orissa
* Centre for Biotechnology, Visva-Bharati, Shantiniketan-731235, West Bengal

A total of 50 algal taxa were reported from the waterfalls, streams and a mountain lake of Sikkim. These include
19 Cyanophyta (Cyanobacteria), 17 Chlorophyta and 14 Bacillariophyta species. Among these 15 species were reported
for the first time from India.

Key words: Algae, Freshwater, Sikkim, Systematic enumeration.
