Overview: This Specification Guide is to assist Plant and Consulting Engineers in specifying and describing ABB SSD Series
Digital Reduced Voltage Solid State Starter. This equipment is offered as a superior method of providing control and protection for
AC motors. It also solves performance, control and reliability problems typical of electro-mechanical reduced voltage motor starter
methods, such as Wye-Delta, Part Winding, AutoTransformer, and Primary Resistors. Advantages of Digital Reduced Voltage
Solid State Starters include solid state construction, advanced motor protection, stepless acceleration, reduced inrush current,
minimal maintenance and high duty cycle capability. Applications include, but are not exclusively dedicated to, pumps, fans,
blowers, grinders, compressors, lumber and rock processing, conveyors, and mixers.
