A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING A NEW RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SAC ANDfOX NATION AND THE
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS. THRCU6H WHICH PARTIES HAVE COMRflTTED TO FOSTER A BETTER PUBLIC
UNDERSTANDING OF AND RESPECT FOR THE HERITAGE OF THE SAUK AND FOX PEOPLE AND OF
AMERICAN INDIAN/NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE, AND TO PROMOTE THE SYMBOLS OF THE CHICAGO
BLACKHAWKS ASATRIBUTETOTHENATIONITSPEOPLE.

WHEREAS, th9 Natton Is a Feden^y reoognlzed Indian Tribe exerctelng all Inherent sovereign rights
from the time Immemorial,and whose homeland,as part of the Sauk and Fox Nations,
once Included northwestern llllnols and portionsof the surrounding states;and
WHEREAS, the Chicago Blackhawk Hockey Team, Ina, a member of the NatlonM Hockey League,
located In Chicago, Illinois. USA (the -Chicago Blackhawks") Is a professional hockey
organization and a member of the Nallcnal Hockey League, which for many yearn has
carried the name of the great Sauk warleaderand dignitary Black Havirt<,arKl
WHEREAS, based on discussions and (flatogue, the Nation and the Blackhawks.have committed to
establish a relationship of trust and respect relating to the future use by the Chicago
Blackhawks of Sac and Fox syirawls,Imagery,aird culture, and a partnership that fosters
awareness, education, and the positive portrayal of American Indians and Native
Americans;and

WHEREAS, so long as the games maintain their relationship, and so long as the commitments
made to the Nation are honored,the Nation supports the Chicago Blackhawks use of
Sac and Fox symbols. Imagery, and culture In the t^rerallona and business of the team,
Induding the use of imagesdeplcang the Sauk warleader Rack Hawk-
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, we, the Governing Council of the Sac and Fox Nation, hereby
proclaim a new relaOonshIp between the Nation and the Chicago Blackhawks. through which parties
have committed to foster a belter public understanding of and respectforthe heritage of Ipe Sauk and
FOX people and of American Indian/Native American people, and to promote ihe symbols of the Chicago
Blackhawks asa tribute to the Nation and Its people.
