HOW HOT IS DAVAO CITY?

 FADE IN:
INT. HOME – BEDROOM – DAY 1

The screen fades in to see a phone being used, the screen

showcases its contents being scrolled down by someone as the
camera slowly zooms out.

INTERCUT to an extreme close up shot of the phone

The contents in the device are now talking about the heat index
that’s been going around in Mindanao. Posts like suspended
class, or how to handle someone having a heat stroke, etc.

GIRL (OFF SCREEN)

(mumbling to herself)
The heat index huh…

INTERCUT to a high angle shot with the back of the electric fan
as the focus
Camera panning to the left, the electric fan moving side by side
as it gave away air to the girl (21) in front of it.

GIRL
(swinging her legs)
Everyone is surely
complaining huh?

She placed her chin on her palm and laughed to herself, waving
her hand.

GIRL
This is no big deal for me!
I’ve gone through the years of
summers of wearing cardigans
and jackets, so I’ll be–

CUT IN:
INT. HOME – LIVING ROOM – DAY 2

A cut off, black screen for a moment and we put in the scene of
that same girl that was once ready and proud, who is now lying
by the couch, whining.
 GIRL
(dying inside)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa………………
Holy shet ang ineeeeeet!!!!

The screen gets blurry as a title pops in written “How hot is

Davao city? An experience.”

INTERCUT TO THE CAMERA THAT IS INSIDE OF THE FRIDGE

The girl opened the door of the refrigerator, bending down as
she analyzed the tiny, cold space.

GIRL
(amused)
Oh, ayon!

She finally grabbed a bottle of mogu mogu and gently closed the
door.

KITCHEN

In a medium shot. She chugged down on her sweet and cold drink,
before pulling away and letting out a sigh of relief.

GIRL (V.O.)
It’s been a month since
the heat index notice came up
to Mindanao.

And based on what you’re looking

at, right now? it’s obvious as hell
that I am not handling it well.

Camera is now on a close shot of the girl, nibbling on the

bottle a little she pondered for a moment, opening the top door
of the fridge, letting the cool air of the freezer refresh her.

GIRL (V.O.)
Mindanao has been witnessing
 an excessive heat since the
month of April, and there
are news regarding how students
are affected, which is a problem.

GIRL
(mumbling to herself)(soft)
I have some assessments to
do, if I remember correctly…

Changed to medium shot. The girl is startled by her mom’s sudden

scolding, she stops her thinking and looks at the source of that
voice.

MOM (OFF SCREEN)

Hoy, sayang naman yung
electricity ba! Close
the fridge pag di mo
magamit!

GIRL
(a bit startled)
Ay, sorry ma.

She laughed a little as she apologized but then quietly

complained to herself while closing the freezer’s door.

GIRL
(muttering)
Wala nga kaming aircon
pero ang hot-headed
naman niya ah...

LIVING ROOM

In a high-angle shot. The girl whined a little as she made her

way towards the computer table, placing down her drink before
she prepped her laptop and computer mouse.

GIRL (V.O.)
At first, I didn’t give much
 thought about the heat. I’ve
been pretty used to it since
I’m usually warm compared
to my friends and family.

So, heat has been my thing

since then.

On a side-view angle, medium close up- the camera’s focusing on

the girl, she began to turn her laptop on and grabbed her
notebook to see if there were any notes she needed to read,
wiping her forehead.

GIRL (V.O.)
(complaining)
But, I was given the big L.
I couldn’t handle it, not even
ONE MORE bit of this temperature.

INTERCUT TO EXTREME CLOSE-UP TO THE KEYBOARD

She’s now typing her assessments, sometimes taking the bottle of
mogu mogu on her side to give a little sip.

She stopped typing for a moment and scrolled down to check some
contents of her laptop, leaning back to her chair, and trying to
get some extra air by fanning her shirt.

GIRL (V.O.)
(irritated)
The heat was unbearable.
It felt like I was living
in an oven. I had to take
a bath twice OR thrice.

The girl groaned a little as she wiped her sweat off once more,
her leg raised up as she rested her head by the knee. She
noticed her cat by the ground and picked him up, playing with
him with a smile on her face.

GIRL (V.O.)
…Aircons are too expensive
 and I’m a cheapskate, so
I’m now in a domestic
relationship with the fan.

What? I’m sure you’d say

the same, if you were
to witness the hellish
heat, too.

CUT IN:
INT. HOME – BEDROOM – NOON 3

Medium long shot by the bedroom entrance, the girl is now

checking out some outfits, preparing herself to go to school.
Eyeing closely on some outfits laid on the bed.

GIRL (V.O)
But despite the terrible
increase of the heat,
a college student like me
still have to go to school.

GIRL
..ay, there’s nothing else
to wear.

She eventually took out a black shirt, along with some pants and
to top it off, a cardigan.

The camera moves to a close up shot of the girl, who is now

letting out a dumb smile, knowing for sure that she’s going to
suffer in the heat with this combination.

GIRL (V.O.)
Sure, I may have complained
a lot about the heat since
the moment this video started.

KITCHEN
The bedroom door opened and the girl now walked out, all covered
up thanks to her dumb and picky choice of clothing. Her hand on
her hip while the other held her bag. She’s terribly sweating.

GIRL (V.O.)
…But that doesn’t mean
I’m letting go of my
Cardigan!

In an extreme close up shot and low angle, the girl was tying up
her shoes and stood up.

CUT IN:
EXT. OUTSIDE OF HOME – NOON 4

In a medium shot. She opened the door, and walked out of her
home.

The sky is shining brightly, the girl is looking up in

annoyance.

GIRL (V.O.)
That’s why, all I could
say about this experience
is...

…And quickly ran towards the gate, holding her red umbrella. The
camera is focused on her back.

GIRL
(screeching in pain)
TO HELL WITH THE HEAT!!!
MAMA ANG INIT!!!!
LATE NA AKOOOOOOOOO!!!

The scene slowly blurs off while the girl opens and closes the
gate, complaining from the hot touch and runs off her way to
school. Credits appear, and the scene fades to black.

Activity Takeaway

- What have you learned about this activity?

I’m not sure if I did it right but for sure it’s about typing my
experience as a script or screenplay. This time, I try my best
to add in angles and shots to portray how I imagined it other
than the way that I act. What matters is that I tried anyways
huhu</3 I’d like to learn more in the upcoming future save my so
u l.

- What did you find fun or interesting?

I find it fun that the way I type seems kind of cringe, and I
try so hard not to make it cringe either with the way I describe
and act at home. But it’s still entertaining to me either way.

- What did you find difficult?

This is the first time that I’ve struggled when it comes to
writing an experience outside an essay. I’m not sure if I did it
right when it comes to writing a script, explaining my
experience, but this is what I could think of anyways hihi.
