A Filipino scientist pioneering plant geneticist, and agronomist.

Granted the rank of National Scientist of the Philippines.

17th president of the Philippines’ top-ranked university system, the

University of the Philippines.

Javier promotes sound agricultural policies and programs, utilizing

climate-resilient and environmentally friendly agricultural innovations,
and improving governance to enhance the livelihood of Filipino
farmers and fishermen.

MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS IN
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Spearheaded the Institute of Plant Breeding in UP Los Baños,

which popularized high-yielding crops and disease-resistant
plant varieties in Asia.

That is also where he developed the BT (Bacillus

Thuringiensis) eggplant

Javier has always directed his research toward developing

practical methods of improved crop production using cheap,
indigenous inputs.

Dr. Emil Javier is a Filipino scientist who contributed to

agriculture in the Philippines. He developed high-yielding and
disease-resistant plant varieties and promoted programs for
farmers and fisherfolks. He received recognition and awards
