MOLECULAR TRANSPORT

◎ The term 𝜏𝑦𝑥 called shear stres s . It contains two

subscripts, x which represents the direction of
force, and y which represents the direction of the
normal to the surface on which the force is acting.

Problem-1

◎ Obtain the velocity profile of the falling film liquid from reservoir

8
Solution to problem-1

Some Assumption:
1.The fluid behaves as a continuum
2. Steady state flow
3. The flow is laminar and rectilinear or moving in a straight line
4. The fluid is Newtonian
5. Density and viscosity are constant and no temperature variation
6. Entrance and exit effects are not considered
7. No slip at wall
8. There is uniform pressure over the fluid surface
9. There are no velocity component in x or y direction, vx =vy=0
10. vz is function of x only, vz =f(x)
11.The flow is incompressible
