#2 Ball Peen Hammer

Types of Hammers - Ball Peen Hammer

Ball Peen Hammer

These types of hammers are most widely used in workshops. On one end of this ball pane hammer, a
plain face is made, and on the other end, a pane of 3/4 like a round ball is made.

It is used for setting the rivet. It is also used to strike blows on a metal sheet up to a certain depth. These
types of hammers has been shown in the figure. Its weight is between 0. 11 to 0.91 kg.

Hand Hammer

These hammers are made of cast steel or carbon steel. Their pan and face
are hardened and tempered. The middle body is kept soft. On one end of the
body, the face and pan are made.
Parts of a Hammer
An oval-shaped hole is made in the body in which the handle is fitted by
using a wedge. Because of the wedge, the hole is somewhat enlarged, and
there is no risk of the handle becoming loose and coming out. The length of
the hammer depends on its weight.

On heavy hammers, long handles are used. Contrarily, on the lightweight

hammers, shorter handles are used. In hand hammers, handle of 8 to 12 is
used. According to I. S. 841-1957, the handles used for marking, etc., have
0.11 to 0.33 Kg weight.

In the workshops, the hammers used by the fitter are generally 0.33 to 0.45
Kg in weight. Heavy hammers are 0.91 kg in weight. Hammer has the
following part, which has been shown above.

Engineers Hammer

The engineer’s hammer has been used for locomotive repair, and it has a
round head with cross pean. The term is usually associated with heavy ball
pean hammers and hammers that have a round head.

Long Nose Plier

The jaws of this style of plier are conical and tapered in length. There is no
cutting edge on these pliers. When a combination of pliers isn’t possible, they
are employed instead. They are mostly employed in the gold smithy, radio,
and television industries for creating wire hooks and bending wires. It can
also be used to open bearing locks.

Flat or Combination Pliers

Combination Pliers

The jaws of this piler are flat. For cutting reasons, one side of the jaw is
sharp. These pilers can be used for a variety of tasks, including cutting cables,
turning nails, and other tiny tasks. Insulated handles are used on electrical
piling. A pair of pliers should never be used to cut an extremely hard metal
since the edge will be ruined. Parallel slots are constructed on the inside of
the door for a solid grasp of jobs.

Locking Pliers
The jaws of these pliers are designed to lock in position, making them useful for
snatching screws and bolts. This tool comes in a number of jaw sizes, allowing
you to select the design that best meets your needs. Vise-Grips is another name
for them.

Diagonal Plier

The angled edge on the jaws of diagonal pliers is designed to cut through the
thick wire. They’re quite durable and can even be used to trim nails. As a result,
they’re helpful in carpentry and electrical operations. Wire cutter, the side-cutting
plier, flush cut plier, and diagonal cutting plier is some of the other names for it.
Wire Stripper
The wire stripper is a part of a crimping plier that has the function to peel the
shield/protective skin on a UTP/STP cable. Usually, it is located beside the wire
cutter or in the form of separate stripping scissors. On 2 in 1 crimping plier, the
wire stripper is made separately.

Slip Joint Pliers

These are pliers that, as the name implies, allow adjustment to a wider range of
aperture by slipping the two parts around the rivet or pin that links them.
Because their jaws are actually square, they can only handle square objects. They
can’t cut wiring or anything like that.

Hacksaw

 Best for: Cutting through metal or plastic

The small, sharp teeth on a hacksaw are primarily designed for hacking through copper,
iron, or lead pipes, though they can also be used on plastic. Hacksaws are not usually
used on wood because the thin blade often gets caught between the two sides. It should
also be mentioned that using a hacksaw on wooden material can damage the blades, so
it's recommended to stick to cutting metal and plastic with a hacksaw. You can recognize
this saw by the metal C-frame and the thin blade held in under tension by bolts at either
end of the frame. If you will be tackling any plumbing projects in the future, it's a good
idea to have a hacksaw nearby in case your pipe cutter blade chips.

 Best for: Making rough cuts in wood, trimming branches, cutting lumber and
small trees

A classic type of manual saw, crosscut saws are commonly used for maintaining trees,
shrubs, and hedges. This type of saw is characterized by the large rows of teeth and the
relatively thick blade that helps the saw cut through thick logs and tree trunks. Crosscut
saws are often seen during the holiday season when families head out to cut down
Christmas trees, though they can also be used to cut through pieces of lumber. The two-
person crosscut saws are less frequently seen, but perhaps more instantly recognizable
with a handle at either end that allows two people to saw through large diameter trees.

Flathead or Slotted Screwdriver

 Best for: tightening or loosening screws with a linear notch

A flathead or slotted screwdriver is a tool with a wedge-shaped flat tip that is designed to
fit into the notch on a slotted screw. These tools can come in various sizes and lengths,
including oversize flathead screwdrivers that are useful in automotive work, standard-size
screwdrivers for furniture construction, and precision flathead screwdrivers that are
suitable for working on computers and other delicate electronics.

You can find manually driven and electric flathead screwdrivers, though these products
are limited by the cam-out effect, which occurs when the screwdriver tip slips off the
screw head. This can happen if the screwdriver is misaligned in the screw head slot, but
can also be caused when the amount of torque applied to the screw head exceeds a
specific limit. The inertia of the screwdriver tip overcomes the friction between the two
surfaces, resulting in the screwdriver tip slipping from the screw head. This effect can be
lessened, but not eliminated, by carefully matching the correct sized driver to the slot in
the screw head.

 Best for: driving or removing screws with an X-shaped notch

Phillips screwdrivers have an X-shaped tip that is made to fit inside the X-shaped notch
of a compatible Phillips head screw. These tools were developed in the 19th century as an
improvement over flathead screwdrivers because the shape of the screwdriver head
provides better traction or grip when you are driving or removing screws.

Similar to flathead screwdrivers, there are a wide range of sizes and lengths for Phillips
screwdrivers and they also come in both manually driven and electric options. While
Phillips screwdrivers do provide better control and driving power, the tip can still slip out
of the screw head if it is driven with too much force. Go slow to ensure that the
screwdriver tip grips the screw properly to avoid stripping the screw head.

Socket Wrench

Socket Wrench

The socket wrench (or ratchet) uses a ratcheting mechanism to allow you to
quickly tighten or loosen the nuts or bolts without removing the wrench from
the fastener.

Combination Wrench

Combination Wrench
The combination wrench consists of one side being a closed-loop for hexagonal or square nuts,
while the other end is an open U-shape.
It is often used for hard nuts, the closed-end loosens the nut so that the
open end is used to quickly finish it. Like sockets, a combination wrench is
commonly sold in a kind of wrench size.

Adjustable Wrench

Adjustable Wrench
They have an open end with a spiral screw that is fixed and opens or closes
the crescent as you turn it. These are some of the most common wrenches
available and the most widely used types. This is also known as a crescent
wrench.

For this purpose, it can perform the same basic function as a whole set of
combinations or an open-ended wrench, although it needs more area due to
its thicker size.

A box wrench is a tool used for tightening and removing bolts and nuts. It has the
shape of a socket wrench with a handle attached, and its usage differs slightly
depending on the shape of the handle. Here we introduce the usage of different types
of box wrenches. It is sometimes also called a handle wrench. The attached handle
allows the user to apply a large amount of force in a short period of time and is easy to
handle. There are several types of box wrenches depending on the shape of the handle.
Cold chisels are sometimes used in place of more expensive, specialized
chisels. Their actual use is where they get their name, a cold chisel is
used to cut metals at room temperature.

Pipe Wrench

Pipe Wrench
As per its name, this spanner is used to fasten or dismantle pipes and their
units. Its jaw is made of forging tough steel. On its movable jaw flat
threads are cut and on its fixed jaw, a plate is joined with a groove In it.

A knurled round nut is fitted in this groove. On revolving this nut, the
movable jaw increases or reduces the size by moving up or down. A spring is
fixed between the fixed and movable jaw, which helps in the proper grip of
the job. Pipe wrenches are made of 6”, 9”, and 18”.

Tap Wrench
Tap Wrench
This tap wrench is like a key, which fits the square drive of the tap, used to
cut the female thread (such as the inside of the nut). These wrenches can be
T-shaped or have a double-handle bar with an attachment socket in the
middle.

12 Drill Bit

A drill bit is a cutting tool used to create holes in materials, usually with a
circular cross-section. Drill bits can drill various holes in a wide range of
materials and are available in a wide range of sizes and shapes.

Drill bits are typically attached to a drill to make holes, and the drill’s motor
rotates the drill bits to cut through the workpiece. In the chuck, the drill
grasps the shank of the bit. Drills have standard drill bit sizes.

14 Clamp

These workshop tools were used to apply internal pressure to hold or secure
objects firmly together to prevent movement or separation. There are lots
of forms of clamps available for a wide range of uses.
Sometimes, they are intended to serve a temporary purpose, such as
positioning components while fixing them together. In others, they serve a
permanent purpose. They are employed in various projects, such as
metalworking, construction, welding, furniture making, carpentry, and
woodworking.

A file is used to remove small particles of material from a workpiece. It is

typical in tasks related to the trades and hobbies of metalworking and
woodworking. Most are hand tools made of case-hardened steel bars with
sharp, generally parallel teeth on one or more surfaces. One end often has a
narrow, pointed tang that can be fitted with a handle.

Hand Rivet Gun

Hand powered POP rivet guns work with a simple lever and squeeze technique. The first step
when using one, is to choose the appropriate sized nose piece. Rivet guns normally come with
several options to fit a range of blind rivets. Hand-operated riveters fit a variety of rivets, are
usually made of mostly steel with a rubber grip and offer the cheapest cost.
Hand Rivet Guns are an excellent choice for the occasional user. If you find your project having
just a few rivets, then this will do the trick. The biggest con on this riveting tool is the squeeze
and the amount of time it takes. Used repeatedly, it can be very stressful on the hands, wrists
and forearms making it less than ideal for projects requiring many rivets.

1. Flat File: ( Types of File Tool )

A flat file is referred to as a file which is of a rectangular cross-section in shape. This
instrument is designed in a slightly different way by tapering both the width and
thickness of the file. Double cut teeth are cut on the face whereas the simple-cut teeth
are cut on the edges. These instruments are the one which are used to reduce the flat
surfaces by filing and finishing the work piece.

2. Round File: ( Types of File Tool )

As the name clearly tells, these are the types of file which is found having a round
section. This type of files are used for the purpose of rubbing or finishing the keyholes
of a small diameter.

3. Half-Round File: ( Types of File Tool )

Half round files are the files which is found on the side and is curved on the other side.
On the other hand the double cut dents are cut on it like a round file which is then
tapered. These types of mechanical instruments are mainly used to repair the damaged
hole and to also set them in order again.

4. Triangular File: ( Types of File Tool )

The name clearly depicts the shape of such types of files. The files slots are found
having angles of 60 degrees. In order to complete filing of V slots job, the square and
rectangular jobs ranging from 60°-90° angle are mostly done using this file. This type
of file is also known as three square files.

5. Square File: ( Types of File Tool )

These types of files are in the shape of a square and are found being tapered. The slots
of filing in a rectangular, square groove and key-way is done using these types of file.

6. Hand File: ( Types of File Tool )

A hand file is quite similar to the flat file which is mostly used for filing the internal right
angle side of a job. These types of hand files are also known as the safe edge file.

7. Knife-Edge File: ( Types of File Tool )

Knife edge files are used at places where there is a requirement of a sharp file. The
shape of this type of mechanical instrument is like the edge of a knife. The thin edge is
usually at an angle of 10°. These are also used for filing the small grooves and slots
which are found having an angle less than 60°. Knife-edge files are generally used in
the lock industry for making the keys.

Tape Measure

CRAFTSMAN Tape Measure

Also known as a measuring tape, the tape measure can take measurements
of size or distance. At their simplest, they consist of little more than a ribbon
of cloth or plastic, marked with measurements in inches, centimeters, and
millimeters. You’ll commonly find these minimalist tape measures used in
tailoring and dressmaking.

Alternatively, the self-retracting metal tape measure utilizes a spring-loaded

housing that can be clipped onto a belt. As a ubiquitous tool of the
construction trades, the tape measures is especially useful for taking
measurements over long distances—sometimes up to 100 feet!

Ruler

Mr. Pen Steel Rulers

Rulers are sometimes known as a rule, line gauge, or straightedge and are
used to measure distances or draw straight lines. Professionally, they are
mostly found in engineering and construction jobs, where they are used to
ensure accurate measurements on flat surfaces. As a popular tool to have
around the house, rulers are perhaps the most common measuring tool in
use today.

level

The level is used to establish “true horizontal” and is an optical instrument

that uses air bubbles in a liquid medium to display its results. It’s especially
useful on construction jobs and is also a standard inclusion in woodworking
and metalworking shops.

Calipers
Anytime Tools Dial Caliper

Available in analog or digital measuring versions, calipers are an

indispensable tool for measuring the distance between two opposite sides of
an object. By adjusting the tips of the calipers to fit across the object to be
measured and removing the calipers, the total distance can be measured via
an integrated ruler.

Utilized in a wide variety of fields, calipers can be found in the offices of

mechanical engineers, scientists, and doctors, as well as in the field with
metalworkers, woodworkers, and forestry researchers.

An L-square (or tailor’s square) is a two-armed ruler used to make reduced

scale patterns in pattern drafting. It eliminates the need for math when
figuring scale measurements. The short arm has halves, 4ths, 8ths and 16ths.
The long arm has two-thirds, 3rds, 6ths and 12ths. The tailor first determines
which scale to use, then draws a line from the zero point at the corner of the
ruler to the number on the desired scale corresponding to the original full-
scale measurement. For example, if the full scale pattern calls for a
measurement of 16 inches and the tailor wants to make a half scale pattern,
the tailor draws to the 16 mark on the half scale, which creates an 8-inch line.

Welding gloves

Welding gloves are used for welding projects where sparks or small particles could be
thrown at a worker. In addition to gloves, welders should be wearing other personal
protective equipment.

Safety goggles should be worn when hazardous factors are present. This includes tasks that produce dust,
fumes, mists, or particles of sizes larger than one micrometer. In the workplace, it is essential to have a
clear vision to be efficient. However, specific tasks require safety goggles to protect your eyes from any
harmful particles present.

Welding helmets
Welding helmets are most commonly used in arc welding processes such as shielded metal arc
welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and gas metal arc welding. They are necessary to prevent arc
eye, a painful condition where the cornea is inflamed. Welding helmets can also
prevent retina burns, which can lead to a loss of vision. Both conditions are caused by unprotected
exposure to the highly concentrated infrared and ultraviolet rays emitted by the welding arc.
[2]
Ultraviolet emissions from the welding arc can also damage uncovered skin, causing a sunburn-
like condition in a relatively short period of welding. In addition to the radiation, gases or splashes
can also be a hazard to the skin and the eyes.[3]
