Section 1: Linear Equations
1. For what value of p the pair of linear equations (p + 2)x – (2p + 1)y = 3(2p – 1) and 2x – 3y = 7 has a unique
solution. 3Marks

2. The difference of two numbers is 66. If one number is four times the other, find the numbers. 1Mark

3. Pinky scored 40 marks in a test getting 3 marks for each right answer and losing 1 mark for each wrong
answer. Had 4 marks been awarded for each correct answer and 2 marks were deducted for each wrong
answer, then pinky again would have scored 40 marks. How many questions were there in the test? 3Marks

4. The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 4 more than twice the numerator. If the
numerator and denominator are increased by 3, they are in the ratio 2:3. Determine the fraction. 2Marks

5. A and B are two points 150 km apart on a highway. Two cars start with different speeds from A and B at same
time. If they move in same direction, they meet in 15 hours. If they move in opposite direction, they meet in
one hour. Find their speeds. 3Marks

Section 2: Arithmetic Progression

6. Find 21st term of the AP whose first two terms are –3 and 4. 1Mark

7. Two APs have the same common difference. The first term of one of these is –1 and that of the other is – 8. Find
the difference between their 4th terms. 2Marks

8. The first term of an AP is –5 and the last term is 45. If the sum of the terms of the AP is 120, then find the number
of terms and the common difference. 2Marks

9. In an AP, if Sn = 3n2 + 5n and ak = 164, find the value of k. 2Marks

10. Jaspal Singh repays his total loan of Rs 118000 by paying every month starting with the first instalment of Rs
1000. If he increases the instalment by Rs 100 every month, what amount will be paid by him in the 30th
instalment? What amount of loan does he still have to pay after the 30th instalment? 3Marks
