Note: These open-ended questions are originally made by the researchers as their instrument to
the conduct of their Focus Group Discussions. The last five questions (6-10) are based on and
guided by the Typology of Strategies by Kondo & Yang (2004), which comprehensively assesses
students’ coping strategies for public speaking anxiety.

No. Items Essential Useful but not Not

of your anxiety?

not?

6. How do you prepare yourself *

in facing your public speaking
anxiety in this new learning
modality? Can you cite
significant differences in your
preparation from your past
public speaking experiences
during a face-to-face modality,
if you have encountered one?

7. *

speaking anxiety? Does the
new learning modality affect
your mental readiness for a

classmates, professors, etc. to
help you with your anxiety? In
what ways do they help you?

10. What do you think are the *

negative effects of your
anxiety as a student in an
online public speaking class?

For items 1&2, they are not that essential if we focus on the coping strategies but they are useful

for identifying the cause of public speaking anxiety because there is a possible that the speaker

has a language barrier. For the last item, it is also useful to identify the negative effects but again

we only focus on the coping strategies and the level of anxiety of public speaking students.
