GLOBAL WARMING

Every day we use lots of energy. It produces CO2 and

other gases that make a big, dirty “cloud” around our
planet – pollution. Pollution blocks too much hot air
inside the atmosphere, so the temperature of the world
goes up. That is global warming. But a warmer world is
bad news.
Global warming confuses the world and the weather!
Now in some countries it doesn’t rain and in other
countries it rains too much. Hurricanes are more
dangerous, storms are more frequent, summers are
hotter and winters can be colder – the climate is
changing.
The Artic ice, home to polar bears, is the place where
they eat and sleep. But with global warming, the temperature of the sea is going up and the ice
is disappearing. Where can the polar bears live? And where is the ice going? The ice becomes
water, so the sea gets higher, not only in the Artic Ocean, but in all the oceans. Many towns on
the coast are in danger of going under the sea. Not only towns, but also islands like the
Maldives.
What can we do? In the United Nations Agenda 2030 there is a plan for climate action. The
EU wants to do more: its member countries want to cut CO2 and the other gases by 55% by
2030. But your action is important too. Start living an eco-friendly life now!

ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

1 What is the consequence of pollution?
2 Which animals live on the Artic ice?
3 What’s happening to the Artic ice?
4 What happens when the sea gets higher?
5 What is “Agenda 2030”?
