HEAT-STRESS (2)
We are sorry to inform you that yesterday, Monday 07 August, 3
of our fellow workers were caught by Heat Stress Symptoms.

We all know that the Month of August and September can create
serious Heat Stress problems. As we cannot change the weather
conditions, we already have the required precautions in place.
Like: Shaded areas, sufficient cold water, strict work/rest regime
and the buddy system.

To prevent any more Heat Stress incidents we urge you to follow


the work/rest regime and continuously drink enough water. If, for
any reason, you cannot comply, contact any HSE representative
(Sub-contractor, Contractor or Company).

If you notice any of the below mentioned disorders please report


directly.
Take good care of yourselves and your buddies.

Recognizing and treating the most common heat disorders

Disorder Cause Signs & symptoms Treatment


Heat stroke Total breakdown High body temp (>103), sweating stops and skin Treat as a medical emergency; move victim
of body’s cooling is hot red and dry; headache, dizziness, to cool area, immerse victim in cool water
system weakness, rapid pulse or massage victim’s body with ice; do not
give liquids
Heat exhaustion Excessive loss of Heavy sweating, intense thirst, skin is pale and Move to cool area, rest with legs elevated,
water and salt cool, rapid pulse, fatigue/weakness, nausea & loosen clothing, drink plenty of fluids
vomiting, headache, blurred vision, fainting
Heat cramps Excessive loss of Painful spasms in arms, legs and abdomen; hot, Drink fluids, massage cramped areas, rest
water and salt moist skin
Dehydration Excessive loss of Fatigue, weakness, dry mouth Drink fluids and replace salt
water and salt
