Overview: Learners will work individually to investigate how matter changes from one state to
another. They
will put liquid water (liquid) in the refrigerator (freezer) and after two hours, they will check what it has
become of it. They will also observe an ice (solid) melting back into liquid water after been exposed to heat
energy from the sun.
Materials needed: Note book, pen, transparent bottle container, and a kettle or pot.
Safety precautions: Learners must be careful not to burn themselves when observing liquid water changing
into gas
Instructions to learners:
 Put a transparent bottle of water in the freezer and wait for two hours
 Check of what has come of the liquid water in the bottle put in the refrigerator
 Expose the ice in the container to heat energy from the sun and observe what will be happening to the
ice block in the container.
 Put water into the electrical kettle and plug it, and observe what happens as the water is boiling, if there
is no kettle the water can be put in the pot on the stove.
 Find any other sources that you can find relevant information on (internet/google, reading books,
watching videos on YouTube etc.…)

TOPIC: Living Organisms (Plants) Marks: 30
Date: ___________________________________________ 2024
Due date: ______________________________________ 2024 Grade: 5_____

______________________________________________________________________________

This task must be done in a group of five (5) or six (6) learners.
AIM: Analyse the structure of a flowering plant and design it with external structures.
Learning Objectives
 Know the major parts in the structure of a flowering and a non-flowering plant and understand
that organs of plants have specific function.
Basic Competencies
 Analyse the structure of a flowering plant (Choose one flowering plant and design a poster).

Materials needed: GROUP MEMBERS

1. Chart (Yellow)
1.
2. Glue
3. Four (4) coloured A4 papers
2.
Coloured paper for:
 Green for leaves
3.
 White for flowers
 Orange for fruits
4.
 Brown for the colour of the plant
5.
4. Marking pen
5. Pair of scissors
6.
6. Pencil
7. Eraser (Rubber)
8. Ruler

Instructions:

1. Use a sharp pencil to draw the structure of the flowering plant you want to design (on the brown
paper). At this stage just draw the branches, stem and roots only.
2. Use a pair of scissors to cut the drawn flowering plant from the brown paper and paste it on the
chart you have.
3. Take the green paper and draw leaves (As many as possible). The green leaves have to be attached
to the branches as pasted on the chart.
4. Draw a flower on the white paper, cut and paste it on the chart. Also do the same with the orange
paper which represents fruits. Paste them accordingly in their right positions.
5. Do not forget to label the different parts of the flowering plant you have designed, including the
heading.
