1 About this module

This module is presented by the Department of Decision Sciences at Honours level. The pre-requisites
are an acquaintance at this level with stochastic modelling as well as the preceding module. Like all
modules at this level at Unisa, it is presented in English but some material may be made available by
the lecturer in other languages, where possible and feasible. You are welcome to contact the lecturer
to ask about this or any other matter. Apart from this tutorial letter, all study material in HONMD23
will be made available online only. You have to register to use Unisa’s online learning environment
myUnisa and use and maintain your Unisa e-mail address. All Unisa rules and regulations including
those related to student conduct, finance, due dates and procedures apply in this module.

2 Contact with the Department

This tutorial letter was drafted in mid-2014 and the final assignment of a lecturer to this module will
take place later. You are welcome to contact Professor Petrus H Potgieter on potgiph@unisa.ac.za,

3 Assignments and examination

All assignments in this module are compulsory. The first two assignment marks will contribute
equally to a year mark which will make up 20% of your final mark in this module. The remaining
80% of your final mark will be determined by a written final examination. The assignment due dates
for 2015 are as follows and assignments may be submitted in any official language of the RSA.

Assignments have to be submitted electronically, using myUnisa. In case myUnisa is down, you may
e-mail the assignment directly to the lecturer but this will delay the processing of your marks. Please
submit your assignment in PDF format. It is recommended that you use LATEX for typesetting your
answers.
