We aim to spark collaborative innovation in South Australia, envisioning a future where our state
leads as a premier innovation hub. Embracing hackathons as a key tool, we seek to foster a
forward-thinking culture that unites individuals for cross-disciplinary problem-solving in
healthcare. We aim to energise students, trainees, faculty, and stakeholders to explore solutions
together and make a real difference within the healthcare system.

Building on the success of our inaugural hackathon event in September 2022 themed "War on
Healthcare Waste", we are thrilled to announce the return of the Adelaide MedTech Hackathon
in 2024! This year, the event will feature two distinct streams. The first stream will have a
continued focus on "War on Healthcare Waste" with a sustainability theme, seamlessly
integrated with the intriguing medical dilemmas theme introduced in 2023. The second stream
will feature a completely new theme introduced this year: medical technology.

Our 2023 event was a resounding success, raising over

$24,000 in funding and attracting more than 142 participants
(29 groups) in sign-ups from the University of Adelaide and
two high schools. All teams presented remarkable pitches for
innovative solutions, with winners earning prize money and
invaluable startup support from ThincLab, the UoA Business
Incubator.

As we embark on the 2024 Adelaide MedTech Hackathon, we

eagerly anticipate a wealth of fresh ideas and solutions to
address healthcare challenges. Our primary goals remain the
development of participants' entrepreneurship skills and, of
course, ensuring a fun and engaging experience for all
involved. Join us in this exciting journey of innovation,
collaboration, and positive impact!

THE CHALLENGE
ThincLab, affiliated with the University of Adelaide, and Australian medical startup Osteo-X have
joined forces to support the Adelaide MedTech Hackathon. This dynamic program provides South
Australian University students with an exclusive opportunity for immersive learning, collaboration,
and innovation. This year's MedTech Hackathon is dedicated to addressing healthcare challenges,
with a thematic focus on sustainability in healthcare waste, navigating medical dilemmas, and
exploring advancements in medical technology, all guided by industry and academic experts.
The goal is to promote healthcare advancements while mitigating potential adverse health and
environmental impacts.

Student teams will engage in four in-person

workshops led by academics and industry
professionals. The initial session will explore the
proposed challenge with insights from medical
experts through keynote speeches. Subsequent
workshops will help develop group themes,
pitching techniques, and entrepreneurial thinking.
These sessions equip participants to better
innovate and develop unique solutions. Teams will
receive continuous mentorship throughout the
Hackathon, culminating in the final pitching event,
where they will advocate for their innovative
solutions to a panel of judges and sponsors on the
final day.
