I. Objectives
At the end of discussion, the pupils should be able to:

1. assemble the scatter objects;

2. compare number using concrete objects and visuals and;
3. identify the use of the term “less than” and “greater than” correctly

II. Learning Contents:

A. Topic: Less than and Greater Than

B. Reference: Danilo S. Padilla, Lolita Dacuba (Autors)Mathematics 2. “Page 27-29”
C. Instructional Materials: projector, laptop, speaker, cartolina, cut-outs, scotch tapes.
D. Values: Developing the ability to compare quantities and determine which is larger or
smaller.

III. Teaching and Learning Methods

I. Preliminary Activity

1. Review

Review ordering objects from smallest to greatest.

The teacher will show a picture and the students will arrange the ascending number from the
smallest to greatest.

1.

2.

3.
2.Motivation

Activity: Guess the object

The teacher will show two object and two different sizes and ask the children which one is
bigger and smaller.

1. Which one is bigger?

2. Which one is smaller?

3. Which one is bigger?

4. Which one is smallest?

II. Development of the Lesson Plan

 Descriptive Clues
1. Presentation
Teacher will show a picture or an object and the students will observe.

SET A SET B

Which is more?
Compare the 2 sets

SET A SET B

Which is less?
Compare the 2 sets

 Direct Comparisons
2. Discussion
To start the discussion the teacher will Introduce the term:
 Greater Than- used to compare two numbers when the first number is larger than the
second number.
 Less Than- used to compare two numbers when the first number is smaller than the
second number.
Write the symbols
 > Greater Than Symbol Sign- used to show that the number to the left of the sign has a
higher value than the one on the right.
 < Less Than Symbol Sign- used to show that the number on the left of the sign has a
smaller value than the one on the right.

Examples:
 3 pebbles and 5 pebbles
There are less pebbles than pebbles because 3 is smaller than 5
< “Less Than Sign”
 2 Apple and 1 Apples
There are greater apples than apple because 2 is bigger than 1
> “Greater Than Sign”

III. Collaborative Learning

Activity: Sorting Race:
 Divide students into two teams: Team < and Team >.
 Scatter objects like toys, blocks, or fruits around the room.
 Call out "less than" or "greater than" followed by a number, for example, "less
than 5!"
 Each team rushes to collect more objects that meet the criteria (less than 5 for
Team <, greater than 5 for Team >).
 The team with the most objects that fit the criteria after a short time wins.

1. Reflective Learning
The teacher will ask the following questions:
 How did you help each other during the race?
 Did working together make it easier or harder to understand "greater than" and
"less than"? Why?
D. Post Activity
. 1. Generalization
 What is greater than?
 What is Less than?
 Can you identify examples of "greater than" and "less than" in your daily routines.?

2. Application

Direction: The teacher will show a two different numbers then the students will identify if it is
"greater than" or "less than.
