1. I told him that first I will check the thickness of the gasket material, type of gasket
material.

And then I will take the old gasket and draw it over a new gasket material .

And prepare the flange by cleaning it properly and then fit the new gasket .

( He just wanted to hear this much )

exchanger is fouled.*

2. In this I told that one method is by checking differential pressure

And secondly I will check the temperature of SW it will drop and the JW OR FW
outlet temperature would rise , more than normal as it won't be cooled properly .

*3.In a centrifugal pump , if we use gland packing , how we prevent shaft from
erosion .*

3. I just told him we put a sleeve in the way of packing and he was happy with this
answer.

*4.In purifier , at one time my oil is coming out with water and another time water is
coming out with oil , what is the problem ? If the grade of oil being used is same ,
why would you encounter the above problem ?*
4. I told him first of all there might be a problem with the gravity disc, if the size is
small then water will carryover with oil And if the disc is large the oil will carryover to
water outlet .

And now if the gravity disc is same and grade of oil is also same, then there is the
problem with temperature and density of the fluid.

We are not heating the fluid properly so proper interface is not forming as per the
gravity disc used .

*5. what could be the reason for water coming in gear box side of purifier.*

5. I said water can enter from the bowl side when the O-RING leaks. Due to clearance
around vertical shaft...

Shut sea suction valve, open emergency bilge suction valve, start respective ballast pump

1. Isolate the system, close respective valves and takeout the pipe

2. Bring pipe to Workshop

3. Now we need make sure that angle between flange and pipe should be same as old
one. For that we have to make a jib.

3. Take angle plate and flat bar and take two flanges of same size.

4. Fit those flanges to old pipe flange with nuts and bolts.

5. Now use angle plate and flat bar and weld it to those flanges so that they don't not
move.

6. Now take out nuts and bolts and remove old defective pipe.

Now jig is ready which has same length and angle dimensions as that of old one.

7. Now bring two new similar flanges and fix it with flange of the jig with nuts and bolts.

8. Bring new pipe of same dimension and put between new flanges and make a tack weld
on both sides

Now we have to test the fitting by using it to the actual location...if all ok then...

9. Now to complete the welding of flange ... first put that pipe in the jig again and tighten
it with nut and bolts.

10. Complete the welding of flange to the pipe. (If we don't put it in jig then while welding
flange angle may get change due to thermal expansion .... then it won't fit in actual
location)

11. Allow it to cool down then remove from jig and Your pipe is ready with exact replica as
that of old one.

2) I told him 1st accept alarm then go to the platform i would adjust the feed to the evap...
Also told him that this will happen if problm with vacuum breaker he said ok...

isolate. And also air starting valve....

I told him regarding my fwg that was 2 stage and plate type.

He wanted to know how to find crack in plate after you take out all the plates .

I told him by visual inspection but again he asked what will you check in visual inspection
for crack and how... I wasn't able to answer

Ques: How to replace new bearing in centrifugal pump and how to?

For bearing i told him to clean the shaft, check for any scoring or irregularities and then
heat the bearing by lamp.

Then he asked me will you directly heat the bearng by flame lamp i told him that i will
heat it in oil not directly.

Plate u have to put torch light from one side to other and u can see cracked plates will
show light on other side.

• Preparation of ME.

- Call the bridge to confirm the propeller is clear.

- Look at the MOP and see all the parameters are okay and there are no alarms on the
panel.

- Start Jacket pre-heat pump if required, and start the LO pump if it's not running.

- Open the Indicator cocks as you go down and press up the air bottles.

- Start the electric powered hydraulic pumps (ME Engine)

- Ensure cylinder lubrication is occurring.

- Start turning gear and observe the amperage. Ask the motorman above to look for any
water coming out from indicators cocks.

- Rotate the engine for 10-15 minutes, or 2 revolutions.

- Once done, disengage the turning gear.

- I was going to say to drain the bottles and check the control air but then he moved on to
next question.

• Crankcase inspection of AE.

I said, I will check the condition of lube oil. It's color, smell and by pressing up between
fingers.

Look for any discoloration on liner, black or bluish spots.

- The connecting rod should be able to move slightly sideways on bottom end bearing.
- if we are cleaning it, I'll look for any metal particles/parts broken down in the crankcase
and look at the attached LO Pump strainer.

- I'll see if something unusual is dripping like water/FO.

then he moved on to next question.

• Steam drum inspection and process of removing manhole doors

- First I explained the entire process of depressurizing the boiler, like drop the pressure,
open the vent and let the boiler cool down etc etc.

- then open the top manhole door first and then the botom mahole door.

- have heavy duty gloves and face shield and slacked then manhole door and tilt life from
one side while staying behind the mahole door and only when it is ensured that no gases
are coming out should you proceed to slacken it a bit more.

basically, he wanted to listen this thing only. what all PPEs would be required and how

1.AE unit 5 indicator cock leaking actions

1. In the normal running condition, First Try to Open and close the cock may be due any
carbon deposit it had not closed properly.. If still leak start the standby generator and
stopping the running generator and change the indicator cock. If engine can't be stopped,
put the cap on the indicator cock and tighten it for the time being till the time engine can
be stopped for changeover.

2.-EGB tube leaking, indications, action, repair full.

2.EGB tube leaking indications:

-Seal pot at the bottom will start leaking and water will enter the engineroom

-Water circulating pp pressure drops

-Hotwell level goes down

-Aux boiler level difficult to maintain

Actions: stop the engine, let the egb to cool down, open top manhole door then bottom
manhole door, proper ventilation, go inside the egb with the torch, keep the water on,
tube leaking will start pouring water, mark the tube and plug it with the soft iron plugs,
also fill the tube with some refractory material to keep the tube sturdy.

1.Emergency steering gear

Communicate with bridge and tell the reading on the gyro repeater in the steering gear
room, put into local mode and by using lever on the torque motor we will control the
swash plate angle ...pump disharge pr is changed and rudder angle is achieved

2. Stern tube seals

It is a hollow tube in which tail shaft is going.it seals with lipseal which is holded by garter
spring.4 seal in the aft and 2 seal in the fwd.lip seal is fitted to chrome liner which is
rotating with shaft and protect tail shaft from erosion

3. Purge air from refer

Collect all the refrigerent in the receiver.....

Wait until the condenser inlet and outlet temp becomes equal...connect the purge bottle
on the condenser ..purge until the compound gauge(which shows pr and temp) temp and
condenser temp becomes equal....

*not purge bottle recovery bottle...

This is what i said dont know if it is correct or not....but he accepted it.....

I said.. we take piston to bdc then we take the clearance..

By lead wire method and feeler gauge.

But he kept asking me.. why not top half of bearings clearance.. I KEPT SAYING TOP IS
LOADED

He asked.. where will the load act when con rod moves 360°

I said it shares load all places but we take clearance always at bottom
