OBSERVATION NOTE #3

Location: Barengville, Longlong, Puguis, La Trinidad, Benguet.

A. Detailed description:

The shadowed site is an under-construction bungalow with two living rooms, one kitchen,
four bedrooms, two toilets & baths, one storage area, and one laundry area. The roof was
installed during our visit, and electrical wirings were laid out before the rainy season began. This
was our third time meeting Ar. Quijana, but he still remained professional while communicating
with us.

Ar. Quijana made us measure the bungalow’s as-built measurement because the house is
ready for the installation of windows and floor tiles. The main reason why he let us measure the
bungalow was so that his apprentice could start estimating the materials for the tiles and the
proper scheduling of the windows. He also explained that he changed the set of workers because
the next construction phase is mastered by his other team members: the installation and finishings.

B. Key Insights or Learnings:

C. Photo Documentation

1
Office ShaMeasurement and Measuring
- The main object of measuring the house is to go to the next phase of construction, which is
the installation of windows and floor tiles.
- He taught us how to handle measuring tape and some strategies to use it properly.
- We used millimeters as standard measurement and precise sizing as a protocol for their firm.
- The measurements include the dimensions of the windows from the point of entry to the
bedrooms, the kitchen, the laundry area, and the living area. The measurement process
also includes the room’s as-built dimensions for the spaces.

Drywall
- The drywall was connected to the load-bearing walls to give the illusion of a continuous
wall from floor to ceiling.
- It is composed of tubular steel
- The main purpose of the drywall is to create a stiffener as additional support for the roof
and ceiling to prevent the roof from detaching from its structural integrity when there is a
wind load.
