Critical Reviews
Critical Review
Purpose:
● To introduce the source, its main ideas, key details, and its place within the field
● To present your assessment of the quality of the source

Introduction should include:

• The background or research context of this source. Use the following questions to guide
you:
○ Who conducted the research? What were/are their interests?
○ Why did they do this research?
○ Was this research pertinent only within the author’s field, or did it have broader
(even global) relevance?
○ On what prior research was this source-based?

with APA citations.
Can you help?

APA Guide: libraryguides.centennialcollege.ca/apastyleguide
APA 7th ed. - 4 parts to a
reference
Author: Who is responsible for the work?
Title: What is the work called?
Date: When was the work published?
Source: Where the reader can retrieve it?

Use these elements to create a citation even if you can’t find a

perfect example in the APA style guide.
