News stories are divided into two types: Hard news and Soft news

with lighting and sound.
They are responsible for praparing and planning production, monitering rehearsal and

What is Teleprompter?
Teleprompter is a device that allows speaker to read the script directly from the screen
while maintaining his eye contact with the audiance. It is also know as Prompter or
Autocue. The speaker does not need to look down and read paper notes. The audiance
will not be able to see the script because it is visible only to the speaker.
In TV news they need one but in events they use two Teleprompters, one on right and
another on left side. It requires a computer/laptop with special software to be used
which send the signals to the teleprompter monitor. The speed of the script can be
controlled by the speaker or operator. Now a days and iPad can be used as teleprompter
and it is very economical.

Variable means not constant and liable to change. It is any entity that can take on

PCR stands for Production Control room occasionally also called SCR (Studio Control
Room) or a “Gallery”. This room is equipped to select and compose pictures to be
broadcast or recorded.

What is News producer and explain his responsibilities?

News producers are the people behind the screen. They plan how the news story will
on and take care of all the elements of newscast like Video, graphics etc. The news
producer must have a journalist nose for a story because its his main duty to search,
find and report stories with newsworthiness.
News Producer Responsibilities

• Write the script for the news anchor(s) to read (though in some Designated
Market
• Areas, the anchor(s) prefer to write this themselves)
• Organize the show, to ensure that there is good “flow”
• Gather leads for possible stories
• Monitor the wire agencies/network feeds for potential stories
• Edit video for voice-overs
• Time the show, so it starts and ends on time, and contains all the commercial
breaks necessary
• Communicate with the anchors, director, and studio crew while filming the show

Yes! It is a good idea to sit with the person before interviewing and it is a good
practice to make interview successful. It allows the elimination of camera shyness and
uneasyness of standing on a podium or with mic infornt of audience. It also allows
the interviewee to become familiar and feel comfertable with the surroundings and
environment. Sometimes giving an idea of questions allow the interviewee to select
better words and avoid duplicating words.
Explain Timeliness and Proximity as two important elements of

Both are the news elements, which play important role in deciding that the new
information received has news worthiness or not.
Timeliness refers that how immidiate event is happened. How big is the event and
how soon it can be telecast? Is it a recent development or a follow up of an old story?
If it is not telecast on time it will become old news tomorrow and will not have the
same affect. Thats why news organizations always rush for early boradcast of events
and come up with “Breaking news”. Because of its timeline they interrupt the normal
transmission and broadcast news.
Proximity means relevance. Is the news relevant to the target people? If it is directly
affecting people definately it will become news. Increasing petrol prices has direct
affect on peoples day to day life it will become news. Or if any accident happend in
the area and many people killed, it will be a big news for the local people instead of
peopley dying in another country will not have newsworthiness for local people.

Time is money and everything in todays world especially in news reporting. The
reporter goes to the field in search of news. The success of his reporting on time
management of the task that how soon and smartly he manages his task.

It requires that repoder must be punctual and ready to travel and reach on the spot Spring 2017
on time. A lasy person can do a lot of other jobs but not the journalism. Reaching on
time with all the required tools helps reporter to complete its task and release the
news on time. Having technical knowledge of the tools will give reporter upper hand
and he can devide the jobs between his staff and meet the deadlines. Remeber if the
reporter is not quick, efficient he will loose all the credit and news will be broadcasted
by someone else. Therefore time management skills is a must for a successful
reporter.
Arrangements of staffs in television stations are different in big

stations?
TV stations in big cities have more staff than TV stations in samll cities The volume of
news is more in cities than in small towns. Approximately 300-400 staff works in big
TV stations in different departments including HR, Procurement, Engineering Dept,
Technical staff, reporters and outdoor crew.
In smaller city stations the number of staff could be 20-30 people and will have few
departments because they get support from their headoffices based in the big cities.
The general manager is the head of the TV stations and responsible for all the
activites all departments comes under him.

Human Resource (HR) is a very important department. It is responsible to recruit new
talent, create policies for all the employees and make sure their implementation. It has

Spring 2017 main head of the deparment. Admin and personnel manager takes care of the centres.
This department is responsible for finding the right candidates for the right job.
It fill ups the vacant positions by receving CVs, doing interviews and short listing
candidates. In organization when some one joins he/she will be briefed about the
work environment, working hours, salary package, personal and professional growth
opportunities. It is also responsible to keep the necessary information of employees like
their profiles, having their CV’s, personal photographs, their academic qualifications,
and number of dependents. It also takes care of the leaving employees, calculate their
final settlement, pending annual leaves, and gratuity.
Basically this deparlment is the back bone of the organization. Creating happy and
friendly environment in the organization is this department job.

Media Practitioners are required to have some knowledge of law, religion, war,
science, business, politics, economics, trade and commerce. It is the requirement of

knowledge he/she has the better equip they are.
It helps them to interact with people in different field. While speaking on media they
know what are the things they can say and from which they have to avoid. Media
practitioners should be the regular reader of news papers, maganizes, journals etc.
Therefore knwoledge should not be limited and they are learning new things in life and
aware of whats happening in different fields of life. It will also create good impression
