Happy to see such questions on quora..

We all know that food is essential for us to acquire

energy but we never observe release of energy in the
process of digestion of food.

So, how we get energy from food & will the digested
food further undergoes some processing? YES,

Here is the fate of digested food….

After being broken down in simple form they are

transported to cells with the help of blood vessels. And
now in the Mitochondria of cell they undergo
CELLULAR RESPIRATION, that is, oxidation of end
products in mitochondria.

Cellular respiration involve many steps such as..

Glycolysis

Aerobic respiration

TCA cycle

Cellular respiration is related with the release of energy.

So, this is the fate of end products of digestion.

Related How much energy does the human body

use for digestion?
That is a very interesting question.

To work and to use all of its capacities, the human body

needs energy. Indeed, we all know about the daily
recommended energy (2600 kcal) we need to be in a
good shape. The body creates it by degrading the
glucose and the lipids we ingest during meals . Then,
the energy is used by the body according to its needs.

Related What is the end product of fat digestion?

Fat starts out (in food) as a triglyceride, meaning three
long fatty acids attached to a 3-carbon glycerol. It’s
digested by enzymes called lipases in the saliva and

fatty acids and a monoglyceride.

Along with cholesterol and fat-soluble vitamins, these

are incorporated into little droplets in the intestine

We use water in all of our cells, organs, and tissues
because water helps regulate our temperature and

Related Do humans have extracellular digestion?

Humans use extracellular digestion when they eat.
Their teeth grind the food up, enzymes and acid in the
stomach liquefy it, and additional enzymes in the small
intestine break the food down into parts their cells can
use. Although fungi do not have a digestive tract like
humans, they still use extracellular digestion.

Related Why don’t human beings digest wood?

Wood is mainly made out of very dense cellulose. We
lack the ability to break down cellulose. We don’t
produce cellulase naturally, and our digestive system
also lacks any cellulase-producing bacteria to break it
down for us. (Cellulase is the enzyme that breaks down
cellulose)

Ruminants such elephants can eat wood because they

have gigantic stomachs containing cellulase-producing
bacteria, which are able to break down the cellulose in
wood for the ruminant to absorb.

We literally don’t have the stomach for it.

requires the most water?
Excellent question, given the fact that so many
important processes do require water. I can’t say for
sure, but it may well be. The other one would obviously
be if one separated out the processes which involve the
blood and lymph circulation and the urinary system. I
tend to think of them as one big system, but it would be
understandable if they were separated into their
component sub-systems.

All foods digest in the body at different times. This is

discomfort.

If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome it’s worth

the exact digestion time does depend on the person

The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. In

the human body itself?
It is the epithelial cells that protect the stomach by
producing and secreting a bicarbonate-rich solution to
coat the mucosa. Bicarbonate is alkaline and
neutralizes the acid secreted by the parietal cells; this
produces water in the process, and keeps the stomach
from digesting itself.
