Vietnamese Prime Minister (Pham Minh Chinh) Departs To Attend ASEAN Leaders’

Meeting

On the morning of April 23rd, Vietnamese Prime Minister and a high-ranking delegation
left Hanoi for an ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting held in Indonesia.

The delegation led by Prime Minister includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son,
Minister - Chairman of the Office of the Government Tran Van Son, Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, Vice Chairman of the Office of the Government Nguyen Xuan
Thanh, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong, Vietnamese
Ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Viet
Nam to ASEAN Nguyen Hai Bang.
The ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting is convened at ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia from
April 23-24. The Meeting is expected to discuss about ASEAN Community building, hasten
recovery from COVID-19 and ASEAN’s external relations.
During his tour, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to have bilateral contacts with
ASEAN’s Leaders.
This is Prime Minister’s first foreign trip since he took office. His participation at the meeting
underlines Viet Nam’s priority to strengthen and reinforce the solidarity and mutual assistance to
ASEAN’s member states, which contribute to heightening the bloc’s centrality and position in
handling emerging challenges. This helps to create a peaceful environment conducive to
sustainable development of each member state and in the whole region.
The trip also emphasizes Viet Nam’s effort in contributing to ASEAN Community building and
prolonging success achieved in ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020. It affirms Viet Nam’s
commitment, responsibility, and active contribution to common regional and international issues.
Viet Nam, with the position of President of UN Security Council in April 2021 and a non-
permanent member of UN Security Council, is working to promote ASEAN’s central role. Viet
Nam is also a link between ASEAN and the UN Security Council to support Myanmar with
objective and balanced information.
