Recommendations for stainless steel, bonnetless,
flanged, wafer, and knife gate valves
4. Scope and field of application
“This technical information sheot covers all stainless steel
orstainless ste! lined, cast of fabricated bonnetless, langed,
knife gate valves in2- through 24-in. sizes. The valves inthis
recommendation are intended for use in applications where
shock loadings are not encountered, where temperatures
range from 32°F to 150°F (OC to 65°C), and where
pressures donot exceed 150 psig. Valves made of materials
(rin sizes not ised in this TISheet should be considered in
Conformance if such valves comply in all other respects.
“Applications ouside of the conditions listed requite special
design considerations.
2, Pressure rating
“This recommentation covers 150 psig, C.WW.P. (col working
pressure), nonshock valves,
3, Size
“The valve size in Table 405-8.1 isthe nominal pipe size of
the end connection.
4, Marking
Each valve should be marked to show the following
information:
(A through F to be permanently marked.)
a. Manufacturer's name or trademarhitogo
bb. Manufacturer's mode! number
fc. The material of construction or code
@. The valve size
ce, Pressureitemperatre limitations
F, Since these valves ate normally manufactured for
shutoff in one direction only. the valve should be marked
showing direction of shutoff in such @ manner that the
markings cen be seen with the valve installed in the
‘peline. The wser should be responsible for comectiectional
installation,

8. A tag should be attached to the valve for installation
purposes indicating:
1. Care to be taken in valve instalation with respect 10
direction of shutoff
2. Care to be taken when installing studs oF bots in

oresgure, and valve location, itis nat possible to standardize
“hen @ valve ean be hand-operated or requires mechanical
assistance. Mechanical asistance is normally recommended
‘when handwhec! rimpoll exceeds 80 Ib, Therefore, users
should consult with manufacturers on all valves over 8
rominal size on the advisability of operator assistance.
7, Welding
‘Welding should be of a quality as required for the intended
service. Welding meterial should be selected on the basis of
ood design and manufacturing practice.

8, Tolerances
“The following tolerances should be followed:
Facesioace, sizes 10-in, and smaller * O6in. (1.6mm)
sizes [in and larger *.12in. (3.2mm)
Flange outside diameter = 06in. (1.6mm)

Cenier-to-center of adjacent bolt holes. =.03in, (0.8mm)
9, Test
A. Design testing
1. Sheil tet, Each size volve should be pressure tested ata
minimum of 1¥ times working pressure to substantiate
design,
2. Gate est. Bach size valve should be pressure tested ata
minimum of 1¥% times working pressure 10 substantiate
design.
B, Production testing
1. Shell rest. Each valve should be pressure tested at the
rated working pressure with no visible leakage allowed.
2. Gate test. Each valve should be pressure tested at the
rated working pressure with no visible leakage through the
gate material allowed.
'3, Seat test. Each valve should be hydrostatically tested
at 40 psi differential pressure in the direction of closure,
Maximum permissible leakage should be 40 ccfmin/in, of
rominal valve size.
10, Shipment
A. Valve packing nuts may be loosened prior 10 shipment
to extend packing life. These nuts may have to be adjusted
alter installation.
B, Unless indicated otherwise, vaive should be shipped
with covers to protet the raised face of the flanges, a
