feed pump (6) and

high pressure pump
(4). The flow control
valve (1), fuel volume
control valve (2) and
fuel pressure control
valve (5), a fuel rail
(B) with fuel pressure
sensor as well as a
return line (C) with a
fuel temperature
sensor are also
mounted on the diesel
pump.

The internal feed

pump (6) supplies the
fuel volume control
valve (3) and flow
control valve (1) with
fuel. The flow control
valve directs surplus
fuel back to the
intake side of the
internal feed pump.
Fuel intended to
lubricate the high
pressure pump flows
from the internal feed
pump to the valve for
the lubrication duct
(5), and on through
the high pressure
pump to the return
line (C).
The position of the
fuel volume control
valve determines the
amount of fuel that
reaches the three
internal pump
elements (4) in the
high pressure pump.
The pump elements
generate a flow of
fuel out to the fuel
rail and the injectors.
The fuel pressure
control valve (3)
regulates the flow out
to the fuel rail. As a
result, the pressure in
the fuel rail can be
adapted to each
unique operating
condition.

The fuel pressure

sensor notifies the
engine control module
(ECM) that the fuel
pressure is constant
under all driving
conditions.
Four piezo electrical
injectors are used to
inject fuel into each
cylinder.

In addition to the

The engine control

module (ECM)
receives a signal from
the mass air flow
(MAF) sensor, which
gauges the size of the
air mass that flows in.
This data is used by
the control module to
calculate the injection
period and to regulate
the exhaust
recirculation via the
EGR valve.

receives signals from
the intake air
temperature (IAT)
sensors for calculating
the injection period
and to regulate the
exhaust recirculation
via the EGR valve.

the EGR valve, see:
