Assignment 2
Transportation Problems in the Philippines
A literal definition of transportation is a way to move people, things, and animals

from one location to another. It has existed ever since the earliest times when only

wooden carts and animals like horses, donkeys, and bulls were used. As the world

changed, we observed innumerable advancements that led to the development of

vehicles like cars, buses, trucks, spacecraft, helicopters, ships, airplanes, etc. that

superseded earlier ways of transportation.

The importance of transportation can be summed up as the ability for trade,

commerce, and communication that develop civilization. Planning effectively allows

for the calm and steady movement of people from one location to another while

controlling traffic volumes.

Moving gradually and uninterruptedly is still possible in Metro Manila, despite it

being one of the worst cities in the world in these categories, thanks to public

transportation and urban mobility, which nevertheless lag behind much of the rest of

the world. The poor condition of city roads and the limited regional connectivity

provided by the national road network are two of the difficulties facing the road

transportation industry. Even though Manila is crowded and polluting, it was claimed

that the city's low car ownership rate should help prevent these issues from getting

worse. There are also many other options for transportation, including jeepneys and
several metro lines. Connections to active transportation are made possible by a

robust bike infrastructure and accommodating transit policy. Although Manila's

public transportation system is multimodal, there is room for improvement in terms of

speed, wait times, station density, and cost.

Sometimes individuals think there is no way to prevent the issue of traffic congestion.

People attempting to get to work and school at the same time cause traffic

bottlenecks. There are, of course, advantages to that as well. Working and learning

together is undoubtedly ideal for society as a whole. Sadly, it does lead to more

traffic. Even though many commuters prefer public transportation, there is no denying

that the Philippine public transportation system needs to be greatly modernized to

address both its overt and covert challenges. It still begs the question of whether the

issues being highlighted can be resolved by these measures, even if the government

takes action. Even if many commuters favor it as a form of transportation, the

Philippines still needs to do a lot to fix its systemic issues. As far as we can

determine, the government is also taking action to solve the clear problems with

public transportation. There is uncertainty as to whether or not these initiatives will be

successful. One can only hope that these problems are rectified quickly because the

situation is getting worse rather than better. The longer they go unsolved, the more

challenging it will be to turn things around.
