the correct word or phrase that best fits each of the numbered blanks from 26 to 30.
Tourism is an important part of the global economy and eco-tourism has grown (26)
__________ than any other sector in the industry recently. Eco-tourism aims to be the most
sustainable, environmentally friendly kind of tourism possible. The term ‘eco-tourism’ has been
used (27) __________ 1983 to refer to vacations that are spent in natural environments without
disturbing or damaging natural habitats. Profits from this type of tourism generally help support the
local economy and (28) __________ projects. Quite often, eco-tourism is done in remote parts of
our planet which not many tourists have ever seen before. Therefore, it is also a great way to
experience new cultures and original lifestyles. Unfortunately, (29) __________ eco-tourism tries
its best to keep the adverse impact on our environment to a minimum, chances are that the local
wildlife will still be disturbed to a certain extent. Let’s look at Kenya, where trips on safari are
usually in the morning. This is also the time when lions go hunting. However, the eco-tourists (30)
__________ many other animals away, meaning that lions in the area have to hunt in the hot, tiring
hours of the day. Clearly, it’s better to shoot pictures of animals than to shoot guns at them, but
whether you are eco-tourists or not, the animals would probably just prefer to be left alone.
B. Read the following passage and the list of national parks below. Match each statement in
questions 36 to 40 with the correct park. You may use any letter (A, B, C or D) more than

According to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Vietnam currently has got 33 national
parks, 57 nature reserves, 13 habitat conservation areas, 53 landscape protection zones and 9
biosphere reserves. Among them, 61 national parks and nature reserves organise eco-tourism
activities. Cúc Phương – the jungle-trekker’s dream – is the oldest national park in Vietnam. It’s
home to a dense forest of millennia-old trees, botanical gardens, caves and two animal sanctuaries
which are worth exploring. You can spend the whole day trekking and bird-watching; or book a
stay in the stilt houses of the hospitable Mường people for an authentic experience with locals. Cat
Tien, which lies across Đồng Nai, Lâm Đồng, Bình Phước with a total size of 70,548 hectares of
land, is one of the largest national parks in Vietnam. It also shelters hundreds of ‘critically
endangered’ Siamese crocodiles. Phong Nha – Kẻ Bàng national park is also a must-see. This park
is a true paradise both above ground, with jungles and mountains, and underground, with one of the
world’s largest caves. Ba Bể national park is the most important wetland in Vietnam’s protected
area system because it is the only site that has a natural lake surrounded by a mountainous karst
ecosystem. Ba Bể lake is also a wonder itself. The calm currents of the lake are perfect for
swimming, fishing, and riding on boat trips. Or you can choose to either hike or cycle along the lake
to get up close to the forest.

If you want to do more than just staying in busy hotels, why not visit the Kolarbyn Eco-
Lodge? This resort, which is located in the beautiful Bergslagen region of Sweden, is completely
different. Accommodation is provided in simple wooden huts which have been built deep in the
forest. The huts are covered in mud and grass. Bilberries and mushrooms grow wild on their roofs.
Kolarbyn is an eco-lodge in its true sense. Back in the day, forest workers used to stay in these, so
they're authentic.
At Kolarbyn Eco-Lodge, visitors have the chance to get a taste of a simple life, surrounded by
magnificent scenery. Every day, you can collect water from the spring, cook your meals over an
open fire and wander the mossy woods. In the evening, you can take one of the guided tours and see
moose, beavers, wolves and other wild animals in their natural habitat. You can also explore the
tranquil lake and the surrounding forest in a canoe, go for a wild swim, or head out for a longer hike
in the endless forest. As darkness falls, you can close the door to your little hut, and slowly go to
sleep on soft sheep skins to the sounds of the forest and the crackling fireplace. It’s a great
opportunity to enjoy an environmentally friendly holiday. On top of that, a percentage of the
revenue coming into Kolarbyn goes straight to a range of projects that support the preservation of
the environment. A minimum age of 18 is required to book a stay at Kolarbyn, and the resort is
popular, so you should book in advance.

Janet: Hi Bob! Have you heard of an island country in the Western Pacific called Palau?
Bob: No. Why? Are you thinking of going there on holiday Janet?
Janet: I would love to but I don’t think it would be very environmentally friendly of me to travel all
that way just for a holiday.
Bob: What’s it like?
Janet: Well, it’s a beautiful place with 340 islands surrounded by coral reefs. It has got a tropical
climate and is mostly covered in rainforests.
Bob: Well, is there another way to visit it?
Janet: It has the world’s first shark sanctuary, so it does lots of work to save marine ecosystems. I
think there are some conservation programmes I can apply to volunteer for.
Bob: That’s a good idea. Maybe you could help collect data or something like that.
Janet: Yeah, maybe, I could monitor the coral reef habitats or do something with marine
conservation. The Palau National Marine Sanctuary contains over 800 marine species. They are
working with Stanford University and The Watt Foundation to find out exactly how many by
examining the DNA in the water.
Bob: Well, you seem to know a lot about it already, so I say go for it!
