According to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Vietnam currently has got 33 national
parks, 57 nature reserves, 13 habitat conservation areas, 53 landscape protection zones and 9

area system because it is the only site that has a natural lake surrounded by a mountainous karst

If you want to do more than just staying in busy hotels, why not visit the Kolarbyn Eco-

Janet: Hi Bob! Have you heard of an island country in the Western Pacific called Palau?
Bob: No. Why? Are you thinking of going there on holiday Janet?
Janet: I would love to but I don’t think it would be very environmentally friendly of me to travel all
that way just for a holiday.
Bob: What’s it like?
Janet: Well, it’s a beautiful place with 340 islands surrounded by coral reefs. It has got a tropical
climate and is mostly covered in rainforests.
Bob: Well, is there another way to visit it?
Janet: It has the world’s first shark sanctuary, so it does lots of work to save marine ecosystems. I
think there are some conservation programmes I can apply to volunteer for.
Bob: That’s a good idea. Maybe you could help collect data or something like that.
Janet: Yeah, maybe, I could monitor the coral reef habitats or do something with marine
conservation. The Palau National Marine Sanctuary contains over 800 marine species. They are
working with Stanford University and The Watt Foundation to find out exactly how many by
