Blended Learning

Blended learning is a method of instruction that integrates online instruction with traditional,
offline learning (Dziuban et al, 2018). With the imposition of quarantine protocols due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, blended learning has increased in popularity as a means of remote
instruction.

Blended learning allows for more flexible learning, especially for instructors and learners who
are constrained by location, connectivity, and sickness (Rachmadtullah et al, 2020). Blended
learning utilizes various resources to facilitate learning, which may be synchronous or
asynchronous. Instruction may be done through various platforms, such as Zoom and Google
Meet. Various messaging services may be used for communication. File sharing of instructional
material may be done using messaging services (Telegram, Messenger) or via Google Drive and
similar services. Video streaming services may also be used to supplement learning material
(Karma et al, 2021).

Blended learning also has possible shortcomings, especially with regards to connectivity here in
the Philippines. Device availability and performance can also be a concern for poorer learners
and instructors (Xie et al, 2020).
