INTRODUCTION

In this mini research we are about to know each of the boys monthly allowance in the JHCSC High School
Department. In today’s society, financial literacy and money management skills are crucial for individuals to
navigate their personal and professional lives successfully. One of the ways to foster financial literacy in young
boys is through the concept of allowance. An allowance can serve as a valuable tool for teaching boys about
money, budgeting, saving, and responsible spending. By providing boys with an allowance and guiding them in
managing their finances, we can empower them to develop essential financial skills and cultivate a healthy
relationship with money from an early age. An effective way to instil these values is by providing children with
an allowance, which serves as a practical tool for learning about budgeting, saving, and making wise financial
decisions.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem at hand is the lack of understanding regarding boys’ allowances and the potential influence on
their financial behaviours and gender roles. By investigating the factors that contribute to the allocation of
allowances for boys and the subsequent impact on their development, this research seeks to bridge the gap in
knowledge and provide valuable insights into this underexplored area. This will be conducted in JHCSC High
School Department during the school year 2022-2023.

Specifically, the study will answer the following:

a. What is the suggested allowance by the teachers, if the suggested allowance is third quartile

b. What is the 5th decile score and 95th percentile score of the results in the Boys Monthly Allowance?

DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Third Quartile Score:

Determine the position of the third quartile score that is:

𝑘𝑁 3(30) 90
Position of Third Quartile class= 4 = = = 22.5
4 4

This means we need to find a class interval where the 22.5 th score is contained. Note that the 20th to 24th

scores belong to the 683 – 843 class interval, thus the 22.5th score also contained therein.

𝒌𝑵
− 𝒄𝒇𝒃 𝟐𝟐.𝟓−𝟐𝟐
Qk=𝑳𝑩 + ( 𝟒
) 𝒍 = 𝟔𝟖𝟐. 𝟓 + ( ) 𝟏𝟔𝟎 = 𝟕𝟎𝟖. 𝟏
𝒇𝒒𝒌 𝟑

This means that 75% of the Boys Monthly Allowance has less than or equal

To 708.1 . Moreover, this also implies that only 25% of the Boys in JHCSC have an allowance greater than

708.1 .

FIFTH DECILE SCORE:

Determine the position of the fifth decile score that is:

𝑘𝑁 5(30) 150
Position if Fifth Decile class = 10 = = = 15
10 10

This means we need to find a class interval where the 15th score is contained. Note that the 9th to 17th scores

belong to the 361-521 class interval, thus the 15th score also contained therein.

𝒌𝑵
−𝒄𝒇𝒃 𝟏𝟓−𝟖
Hence, Fifth Decile= 𝑳𝑩 + [ 𝟏𝟎𝒇𝒅𝒌 ] 𝒍 = 𝟑𝟔𝟎. 𝟓 + [ ] 𝟏𝟔𝟎 = 𝟒𝟖𝟒. 𝟗𝟒
𝟗

This means that half of the class obtained a score less than or equal to 57 while the other half got a score

greater than or equal to 484.94 .

NINETY FIFTH PERCENTILE SCORE:

Determine the position of the ninety-fifth percentile score that is:

𝑘𝑁 95(30) 2850
Position of ninety fifth class= 100 = 100
= 100
= 28.5

This means we need to find a class interval where the 28.5th score is contained. Note that the 26th to 30th,

scores belong lo the 844-1004 class interval, thus the 28.5th Score also contained therein.

𝒌𝑵
−𝒄𝒇𝒃 𝟐𝟖.𝟓−𝟐𝟓
Hence, Ninety Fifth Percentile= 𝑳𝑩 + [ 𝟏𝟎𝟎
] 𝒍 = 𝟖𝟒𝟑. 𝟓 + [ ] 𝟏𝟔𝟎 = 𝟗𝟓𝟓. 𝟓
𝒇𝑷𝒌 𝟓

This means that 95% of the Boys in JHCSC has an allowance less than or equal to 955.5 while the remaining

5% has an allowance higher than 955.5 .

CONCLUSION

Analysis of the data obtained in this mini-research shows that the suggested allowance by the teachers is 708.1.

Hence, 75% of the Boys in JHCSC don’t have a suggested allowance, while the other 25% have the suggested

allowance higher than 708.1. It can also be shown that the median allowance is 484.94. This means that 50% of

the Boys have an allowance below or equal to 484.94, and the other 50 have an allowance higher than 484.94.

Moreover, students who got scores higher than 7l are part of the upper 5% of the class.
