NEGUS’S ARTERY FORCEPS (REPLACEMENT
FORCEPS)

It has a curved tip.
Aural Speculums

• This is an instrument used to examine the


external ear canal and the tympanic
membrane.
• The speculum is gently inserted into the
ear canal after pulling the pinna
backwards, laterally and upwards in
adults.
• The speculum is inserted up to the
cartilaginous meatus without touching
the bony canal as it is very sensitive and
can be painful.
Uses:
a. Examination of the external ear canal and tympanic
membrane
b. Removal of wax, foreign body, otomycosis or ear discharge
c. In operative procedures like myringotomy, myringoplasty,
stapedotomy, stapedectomy
d. For transcanal injections.
INDIRECT LARYNGOSCOPIC MIRROR

PARTS: Handle, shaft and a mirror at an angle


METHOD OF EXAMINATION

Ask the patient to take mouth breathing, the


mirror is warmed/ dipped in salon solution.
Hold the instrument like a pen, pull the
patient’s tongue out and gently introduce into
oral cavity, place it against soft palate and
uvula without touching the posterior pharyngeal
wall, to prevent gagging.
USES

DIAGNOSTIC :
• Examination of tongue base, valleculae, glossoepiglottic folds,
pharyngoepiglottic folds, laryngeal inlet, vocal and perform
dosage to rule out any foreign body, inflammatory and non-
inflammatory, neoplastic lesions.

THERAPEUTIC:
• To remove foreign body
• To give local anesthesia
• To take tissue from the growth for histopathological
examination.

Long artery forceps with angulation in the middle and curved tip.
Uses are similar to negus’s artery forcep.
