hello guys,
I'm not used to work on those old MB... I came to this euro world just a few years ago and these old generation cars arent so popular around here so please bear with me on this one .
This 2002 E320 came in for a no start.... and Key is stuck in the EIS, cannot remove it.
Also, the shifter (selector) is stuck in "P" except if i press the release button.
question 1:
does this means that the key inserted in EIS is key 1 and it's authorized ?
remember i cannot get it out so having never worked on those i'm not sure about this.
question 2:
if the key was dead/invalid... should I be able to remove it anyway ?
question 3:
that missing data from EZS to ETC, can it be the "P" signal which would prevent the key to be removed from the EZS not knowing the car is in "P"
question 4:
a missing signal from EZS should also trigger a code in ME ? (that would make sense)
I checked (scoped) my CAN signals at both EZS and ETC and they look fine
after all this... i'm wondering if the problem in related to the ETC or the EZS
I'd use some help please Fing32

Not sure but very likely you have faulty EIS - hence all the DTCs related to the fault and when you switch ignition off it doesnt release the key.
Inserting unauthorized key into EIS you should be able to remove it anyway.
Having a chance check the live data of the EIS, EZS switching ignition on/off.
ETC you mean TCM (transmission control module)? Definitely problem not in there

With an unauthorized key.. should I be able to move the shifter out of "p" ?

I dont have a lot experience with MB EZS system but as far as I remember you wouldnt be able to move shifter from P possition if wrong key is inserted or EZS system has malfunction
What does it show on the dash? What gear possition? Is it "P" (parked)?
Again, EZS and TCM live data would be helpful

I think your problem will be in the shifter. I have done a few on those older models. Some fail electrically and some mechanically. As you put the shifter in parking there is a cable that moves and releases the key..... so it's not completing that task. Then the vehicle will not start because it needs to make sure it's in park. Find out why it's not going into park...... to begin. Good luck.

Dash is a mess.. can't see anything .. display is f#$&@ up. That doesn't help.
TCM data shows the correct position for the shifter in all p,r,n,d positions. EZS data I have refers to key status and actual terminal status ... All look good.
I just can't understand those key status... (See 1st post) but once again... It should get out even if it's not valid.

Do you know if other module should trigger that missing data from ezs on the can bus ?? Or is it normal that only TCM get it ?

Cheer2 for MBENZTECH.
Parking cable wasn't moving at the ezs end... So no park "signal" .... Explaining the no start situation.

Yeah having a dash that works good would have probably help.
But anyway I wonder if the park signal comes from the TCM over CAN network to the dash... If that's the case, it would have shown park since the TCM was reading it correctly.
EZS data didn't include a shifter position.... Only a mechanical cable that release the key.
