Padang, Indonesia was absolutely amazing. It is safe to say that i it
was the best 6 weeks of my life. I met so many new people and made
so many memories. Being from Malaysia it was not to much of a
culture shock for me so I had no problem adjusting. Being in an
education project, WIFU PROJECT, i felt that i truly connected to the
students and made a difference. The kids are extremely enthusiastic
and excited to see us foreigners. Teaching in such a short span of
time but it was more to making them understand the importance of
english and making them interested to learn english. Padang is also a
very beautiful place with the nicest people ever. The host families Yishal Thilinadan
that took us in were so caring and sweet. It was hard to part ways at Malaysia
the end of the program with everyone especially my Ocs and my
fellow participants.

I participated in Careness Project of AIESEC Andalas University. I am afraid of
travel time, because Turkey is so far from Indonesia, and this would be my
first abroad experience. As I am afraid, my travel was so tiring and took so
long time. However, this experience is wortwhile despite all difficulties. I met
many people. I visited many historical place and learnef history of Indonesia. I
celebrated their religious and national day with them. I attended traditional
dance classes. Thanks to these, I recognized their culture and lifestyle.Do you
wonder what I gave them? I taught my language and my custom. I explained
importance of hygiene and healthy foods. I taught how they can prevent to
get disease. I tried to make them sense about global health problems and
Mehtap Manay
habits such as HIV/AIDS, cigarette, drugs. We demonstrated significance of
Turkey
blood donation. Finally, we visited public health center and evaluated their
health system with hospital officials. Not only did we give advice them, but
also we took notes their beneficial attitudes to health to bring our countries.
In other words, I learned many new things and similarly I taught them. After
this project, I started to believe if we try enough, we can change the world.
