4. The Site Engineer will check the alignment of the stub column steel. If
necessary, it will be braced from the ground to avoid excessive movement
during the concrete pour.

7.00 Formwork 1. Formwork will be delivered to site and placed on timber battens to prevent PPE to be worn as per the PW SPS.
contamination. Hand tools to be checked for defects prior to use.
2. The formwork will be placed and adequately braced in position with the top of
the formwork at the height for the finished concrete level of the base of the
foundation. Spacer blocks (50mm thick) to be placed between the formwork and
the rebar in such a manner that the reinforcement is maintained in the correct
position.
3. Rails will be fixed to hold a 100mm high kicker in place to form the base of the
column pour.
4. Prior to inspection, the formwork will be blown out to remove debris and wire
offcuts.
8.00 Inspection At this point, the Resident Engineer should inspect and approve the Base
(HOLD POINT) Reinforcement, having been notified at least 24 hours earlier that the reinforcement
would be ready for inspection.

9.00 Base Concrete 1. On receipt of the resident Engineer’s approval of the reinforcement, the site PPE to be worn as per the PW SPS.
Supervisor will order the necessary amount of concrete. Hand tools to be checked for defects prior to use.

the point of discharge. The pour should commence within 10mins of the concrete
arriving on site.
3. When the laboratory people are happy that the concrete is of the correct
consistency, they will inform the Site Supervisor that the pour can commence.
4. The concrete will be discharged from the truck into the excavation until the
foreman mason judges an adequate amount has been discharged.
5. The concrete will then be consolidated by means of a vibratory poker, evenly
applied throughout the discharged concrete. The base, being 250/300mm thick
may be poured and pokered in one lift.
6. The consolidated concrete will be floated out using an aluminium screed and
hand floats.

7. When the concrete sets, Hessian sacking will be placed on the concrete and
soaked to facilitate curing. The curing should commence as soon as possible
after the pour to prevent dry shrinkage cracks.

contamination. Hand tools to be checked for defects prior to use.
2. The formwork will be placed and adequately braced in position with the top of
the formwork at the height for the finished concrete level of the stub column.
50mm thick spacer blocks will be placed between the formwork and the rebar.
3. The column anchor bolts will be firmly fixed into position and their position will be
checked by the Site Engineer for both horizontal and vertical alignment.
4. The anchor bolts will be protected from concrete spillage by means of wrapping
with Denso tape or equivalent material.
5. The Site Supervisor will inform the Senior Site Engineer that he believes the
formwork to be ready.
6. The Senior Site Engineer and the Civil Engineer will carry out a pre-pour
inspection and record their findings, at which time the Supervisor will have any
defects found, remedied.
11.00 Inspection At this point, the Resident Engineer should inspect and approve the Base
(HOLD POINT) Reinforcement, having been notified at least 24 hours earlier that the reinforcement

12.00 Stub Column 1. On receipt of the Resident engineer’s approval of the reinforcement and PPE to be worn as per the PW SPS.
Concrete formwork, the Site Supervisor will order the necessary amount of concrete. Hand tools to be checked for defects prior to use.
2. When the concrete arrives on site, it will be sampled for concrete cubes and
slump tested by the laboratory personnel. Samples to be taken a t the point of
discharge.
3. Laboratory personnel will inform the Supervisor if the concrete is acceptable.
4. The concrete will be discharged into the bucket of an excavator or backhoe, from
where it will be shoveled into the column. Buckets & Shovels must be clean.
5. The concrete will be placed in layers not exceeding 400mm thick.
6. The height from which concrete may be dropped must not exceed 1700mm.
7. The concrete will then be consolidated by means of a vibratory poker, evenly
applied throughout the discharged concrete. The poker should penetrate the
previous layer by approximately 100mm, the poker should be suitable marked to
facilitate this.
