Team Manager – Chess South Africa


2024 African Youth Chess Championships

Date: 15th - 23rd June 2024

1 ENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATIONS


1.1. Chess South Africa is seeking a dedicated individual to serve as Team Manager at the prestigious 2024 African Youth Chess
Championships, hosted under the auspices of the African Chess Confederation;
1.2. The event will bring together the continent's top young players across various age categories for 15- 23 June 2024 in Ekurhuleni,
Gauteng;
1.3. Interested persons from all provinces are invited to submit applications for the vacant position as indicated above;
1.4. Closing date for applications: FRIDAY 17 May 2024 at 21h00;

1.6. Applications received after the closing time and date are late and as a rule will not be accepted for consideration;
1.7. Please take great care in reading the application and provide the required information.

2 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF TEAM MANAGER


2.1. Coordinate and manage all logistical aspects of team participation, including travel and accommodation;
2.2. Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all team members throughout the event;
2.3. Act as a liaison between players, coaches, and event organisers;
2.4. Manage communication and enforce the code of conduct among team members and accompanying persons;
2.5. Prepare and submit detailed reports and feedback to the Executive Board post-championship.
3 MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
3.1. Proven experience as a team manager or administrator in chess tournaments, preferably with junior teams;
3.2. A valid Safeguarding Certificate is required. Applicants without this certification must complete a safeguarding course prior to the
commencement of the championships;
3.3. Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.
*Having a FIDE instructor qualification will be an added advantage

4 IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
4.1. Chess South Africa regard this as a development opportunity for interested individuals to gain experience to prepare for managing
national South African teams at international events;
4.2. As such, no remuneration will be provided as this is an opportunity for development;
4.3. However, accommodation and three meals/per day will be provided to the successful candidate;
4.4. Official attire will also be provided;
4.5. Women team managers are encouraged to apply;
4.6. The successful candidate must ensure her/his own transport to and from the venue;
4.7. Interested individuals who would like to gain such experience as a team manager, are encouraged to apply as he/she will be teamed
with an experienced team manager from Chess South Africa;
4.8. This experienced team manager will impart skills and knowledge to the successful applicant;

5 EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS
4.1. All applications received will be evaluated by the Executive Board (Elect) of Chess South Africa;
4.2. The applications will be evaluated based on the criteria listed in Table 1 hereunder;
4.3. A score out of 5 will be awarded for each criterion whereas a score of 5 is excellent and a score of 1 is poor;
4.4. The applicant with the highest score out of 15 will be the successful team manager.
