Course Description This course discusses the methods and concepts of managing a staff, business, or
organization. Students learn to apply, identify, and evaluate functions for private and
public organizations and their business structures. This course will incorporate
principles of management and organizational behavioral aspects as well.
Course Objectives - To learn and appreciate different management schools of thoughts and concepts.
- To learn the effects of environmental factors on business entities.
- To learn the basics of four management functions
- To learn and appreciate various leadership theories.
Student Learning Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
Outcomes 1. To relate specific management approaches that will be applicable in specific
situation.
2. To differentiate between internal and external situational factors and how they
impact a firm’s strategic plan.
3. To relate terms and concepts pertaining to four functions of management through
exams.
4. To relate and apply various leadership theories in exam setting and through group
project.

Teaching Methods_______________________________________________________________________

I will provide lectures using slides during the class. Students are encouraged to ask questions. In my course,
there is no need to memorize anything. Understanding the concepts is enough.
Instructions for Individual Mini Case & Group Project________________________________________

I will provide details about individual case and group project during class time and on CANVAS.

Policy regarding Attendance_______________________________________________________________


Attendance will be taken during the class. 1 percentage point will be deducted for first 3 missed lectures.
After that, 1 percentage point will be deducted for each missed class. For any health-related issues students
are expected to communicate with the instructor.

Policy on Late Assignments and Missed Exams_______________________________________________


The instructor holds full discretion for granting extensions (for assignments or exams) which are as a rule
limited to only personal illness (formal documentation is required) or bereavement in the direct family. The
student MUST submit a formal application along with supporting documents. Make up exams will have
comprehensive syllabus (all the chapters from Exam 1 & 2). There is no make up for the final exam.
Policy on Academic Plagiarism_____________________________________________________________

You MUST use proper referencing (APA style) for contents used, and/or ideas generated from other sources
that you use in your work. Not providing proper references is plagiarism even if you express the ideas in
your own words. There will be SEVERE penalties if you do plagiarize in your submission.
Policy on Communication Devices__________________________________________________________
Students should keep all their communication devices in silent mode during the class. You will not be
allowed to have your digital devices (phones and smart watches) on yourself during the exams.
Grading Policy__________________________________________________________________________

NSU grading policy will be followed.

Course Management_____________________________________________________________________

Every effort will be made to carry out the classes and other course related activities as laid out in this outline.
However, external situations may sometimes interfere with the plan and in those cases NSU policies will be
followed. For all of your communications with me, you MUST use your NSU email address.
