• THE REMOVAL OF ALL DEFECTS SHALL BE MADE BY GRINDING. THE GRINDING OPERATION SHALL BE CARRIED OUT
UP TO THE COMPLETE REMOVAL OF WELD DEFECT AND IN ANY CASE UP TO SOUND METAL.
• THE REMOVED PORTION SHALL BE SUFFICIENTLY DEEP AND LONG TO REMOVE THE DEFECT.
• AT THE END AND SIDE OF THE CAVITY THERE SHALL BE GRADUALLY TAPERED FORM THE BOTTOM OF THE GROVE
TO THE SURFACE OF THE WELD METAL.
• AFTER DEFECT REMOVAL, THE REPAIR EXCAVATION SHALL BE CHECKED BY MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION TO
ENSURE THE COMPLETE REMOVAL OF THE DEFECT.
• IF DEFECTS HAVE NOT BEEN REMOVED, OR NEW DEFECT HAVE BEEN ADDED AS A RESULT OF REPAIR ATTEMPT, A
FURTHER REPAIR ONLY IS ADMITTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH A PRE-QUALIFIED WELDING PROCEDURE.
• IN CASE OF DEFECTS ON FILLING OR CAP WELD BEADS, THE LENGTH OF THE CAVITY SHALL BE 100mm AS MINIMUM.
• THE WELDS REPAIRED SHALL BE INSPECTED BY THE SAME NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING PREVIOUSLY USED FOR
DEFECT DETECTION. (VISUAL AND RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING)
