Question
Create a comprehensive illustration depicting
rock, accompanied by detailed annotations explaining each stage

ANSWER
ROCK CYCLE
Rock cycle is a continuous process which tell us how rocks are
interconnected with eachother ,it also tell us how rock are made and act
when they undergo through geological process
❖ STAGE 1
➢ Weathering: when rocks on the Earth's surface are broken down into small
pieces through wind, rain then it is called weathering

➢ Erosion: After weathering, the smaller rock pieces are carried away by water
and wind then it is known as erosion

➢ Deposition: Once the erosion take place , sediment settle down in a new
location then this deposit of sediment is called deposition

❖ STAGE 2

➢ Compaction: As the layers of sediment continue to build up over time, the

weight of the layers above presses down on the lower layers, This pressure
causes the sediment to harden into rock this process is called compaction

➢ Cementation: Minerals in sediment dissolved in water and act like glue and
particles mix together and form sedimentary rock. This process is called
cementation.

❖ STAGE 3

➢ Sedimentary Rock Formation: After compaction and cementation, the

sedimentary rock is formed. Examples of sedimentary rocks are sandstone,
limestone etc

➢ Heat and Pressure: When sedimentary rock subjected high temperature and
pressure deep with Earth crust undergo metamorphism, changing there
mineral composition occurs due to tectonic forces or volcanic activity, this
process is called metamorphism.
❖ STAGE 4
➢ Metamorphic Rock Formation: When rocks are subjected heat and pressure,
they change their texture and mineral composition and form metamorphic
rocks.For Example :marble, slate etc

➢ Melting: When rocks react with high temperature in the Earth's crush they
can melt into magma.

❖ STAGE 5
➢ Cooling of magma:When magma cools down it form igneous rocks. The
cooling of magma beneath the Earth's surface form intrusive igneous rocks
like granite, and the cooling of lava on the surface form extrusive igneous
rocks like basalt

These rocks moves outside the earth crush through geological processes like
tectonic plate movements. The cycle is continuous moving from weathering to
erosion and erosion to formation of new rocks.
