Danau Toba
Danau Toba is a massive volcanic lake located in North Sumatra, Indonesia. It is the largest
lake in Southeast Asia and the world's largest volcanic caldera lake. The lake is 100
kilometers (62 mi) long, 30 kilometers (19 mi) wide, and up to 505 meters (1,657 ft) deep. It
is estimated to have been formed by a supervolcanic eruption 74,000 years ago.
The lake is surrounded by lush green hills and mountains, and it is home to a variety of plant
and animal life. The Batak people, who are indigenous to the area, have many legends and
myths about the lake. One popular legend tells the story of a young man named Toba who
married a beautiful fish. The fish turned out to be a goddess, and she eventually left Toba and
their children to return to the lake.
Danau Toba is a popular tourist destination, and there are many things to see and do in the
area. Visitors can go swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. There are also several
traditional Batak villages around the lake, where visitors can learn about the local culture and
way of life.
