ABSTRACT

Background: The main problem being faced by developing countries, including Indonesia, is the
still high rate of population growth and the lack of balance in the distribution and age structure of
the population and the quality of the population. Indonesia is a country with the fourth largest
population in the world. To anticipate problems that might occur, one of them is the Family
Planning (KB) program. Research objective: To determine the effect of counseling on participation
in long-term postpartum family planning methods in pregnant women in the third trimester in the
Kedungmundu Community Health Center Area, Semarang. Method: This type of quantitative
research uses a quasi-experimental method and a research design using a non-equivalent post test
only with control group design. The sample was 36 third trimester mothers who were divided into
two groups, namely 18 controls (ABPK) and 18 intervention (combination of ABPK and consent
cards), the sampling technique was purposive sampling. Results: the majority of mothers chose
non-MKJP contraception (injections and condoms) in the control group, 9 people (50%), and in
the intervention group, the majority chose MKJP contraception (IUD, implant, MOW), 12 people
(66.7%). Conclusion: There is an influence between counseling on participation in long-term
postpartum family planning methods in pregnant women in the third trimester in the
Kedungmundu Community Health Center Area, Semarang with a p value of 0.046. Suggestion: It
is hoped that health workers (midwives) can provide family planning counseling to third trimester
pregnant women/potential family planning acceptors on an ongoing basis regarding the advantages
and disadvantages of using contraception using the MKJP method both in the community during
field practice, BPM, clinics and in hospitals.

Keywords: Counseling, MKJP family planning, third trimester pregnant women.
