General Description

2 General Description
SecurOS POS (below Module) of the SecurOS integrated security system is intended for automatic video
surveillance of cash finances. Its purpose is monitoring persons at the point-of-sale terminal (below POS
Terminal), searching in cash vouchers database, drawing up of accounts due to required parameters.
Module may be useful for impact analysis and getting selling statistics.

Each cash voucher is registered in database that is integrated with video archive. This allows
administratoror security service reveal and react to any fraud case. The following frauds can be
detected:
· Getting money without bar-code registering;
· Frauds with credit, present and discount cards;
· Editing cash voucher content;
· Input cheaper goods bar-code for money appropriation;
· Unauthorized “Discount” operation;
· Cash voucher cancellation after customer payment (money appropriation);
· Incorrect document the return executing;
· Sham merchandise return.

Store management can use the SecurOS POS system to get information about sales statistics for the
analysis of the facts of violation of labor discipline, disputes arising from the implementation of the
settlement between cashiers and customers. Integration of the Module with the SecurOS system allows
it to be used with other monitoring systems e. g. video and audio control, access control system) and
equipment (e. g. barrier). Server-workstation rchitecture supports a distributed system configuration.

2.1 Implementation and Operation Principles

This section contains the software and hardware platform requirements for installing SecurOS POS; the
description of the system architecture; the description of the different types of configurations; and it
also provides recommendations regarding the placement of the SecurOS POS objects in the SecurOS
system Object Tree.

2.1.1 Hardware-Software Platform Requirements

This section summarizes the hardware/software requirements which are recommended to install the
SecurOS POS Module.

Warning! Calculations of individual configurations for best system performance, are recommended to be
performed with a Intelligent Security Systems specialist.

www.issivs.com
SecurOS POS 9 User Guide
General Description

2.1.1.1 Server Requirements To Install SecurOS POS Module

Basic requirements for the SecurOS servers are listed in the SecurOS Administration Guide.

2.1.1.2 Operator Workstation and SecurOS POS Dedicated DB Server Requirements

Requirements for the Operator Workstation and the Dedicated DB Server are listed in the SecurOS
Administration Guide.

2.1.2 System Architecture

The architecture of the SecurOS POS Module is illustrated in Figure 1.

Figure 1. SecurOS POS Module Architecture

2.1.2.1 System Components

SecurOS POS consists of the following components:
· POS Terminal — system object. Represents the core of the SecurOS POS and is used to parse POS
data.

www.issivs.com
SecurOS POS 10 User Guide
General Description

· POS Camera — system object. Is used for the cashier operations on-line monitoring and recording
video.
· POS Monitor — system object. Is used for monitoring POS Terminal information in real-time mode
and for operation with the Database both in real-time and archive mode.
· SecurOS POS Database — SecurOS POS's PostgreSQL database. Intended to store cash vouchers
information. To display information stored in the Database, the POS Monitor object is used.

The SecurOS POS's objects (except Ddatabase) can be separated into Server-side and Client-side
components.

The following objects are the server-side components: POS Terminal and POS Camera; POS Monitor is
the client-side component.

2.1.3 System Operation

Information, provided by the cash terminal, is sent to the POS Terminal that parses data. Parsing is
performed with the appropriate parser depending on the type and model of the POS. On-line
monitoring of the cashier's operations and video recording are performed with the help of the SecurOS
Camera. Information about individual sales included into the receipt and also the video stream,
generated bu the SecurOS's Camera, are displayed in the POS Monitor. Using the POS Monitor operator
can perform on-line monitoring for the cashier operations and get information about current sales, and
also work with the receipt archive.

2.2 Types of Configurations

This section briefly describes common configurations of SecurOS POS.

2.2.1 Standalone Configuration

In this configuration, all components (server-side and client-side) of SecurOS POS will be installed on
one Video Server in the SecurOS security network. This configuration is typical for relatively small
systems, allowing for all types of SecurOS specific tasks to be done from one Computer: connection of
equipment, system administration, monitoring, and management of data coming from the installed
module(s).

2.2.2 Server-Workstation Configuration

In this case the SecurOS POS components are installed on different computers in accordance with their
types: server-side components are installed on a Video Server, client-side components — on a Operator
Workstation. The Database can be installed in conjunction with the server-side components (on the Video
Server), or on any computer in the security network, excluding the Operator Workstation.

Note. Configuration of the system is possible from any Computer in the security network, excluding the
Operator Workstation.

In this case on the Video Server the analysis of the cash operation and then storing them into the
database and the video archive will be performed. The Operator Workstation will be used for video
monitoring purposes and for working with the systemGUI.

Installing system components on computers with different types of pre-installed SecurOS software is
described in section Installing Module Software.

www.issivs.com
SecurOS POS 11 User Guide
General Description

2.2.3 Distributed Configuration

In this case the Module software can be installed on different Computers: several servers and
workstations. Therefore each Computer will be responsible for performing certain tasks.

This configuration is intended to use for security systems with intense data streams. With the use of a
distributed configuration, computational tasks will be assigned to separate Computers to make the
functionality of the Module more efficient and balanced. This configurations allows for the use of
several Operator Workstations.

Note. Configuration of the system is possible from any Computer in the security network, excluding the
Operator Workstation.

Module server-side components have to be installed on a Video Server only. Module client-side
components — on Operator Workstation (see Installing Module Software). Data exchange between
operator workstations and video servers is done through the TCP/IP network.

The following tasks can be performed on separate servers/workstations (in a distributed configuration):
· Video capturing, processing of images, and saving them to video archive — on Video Server;
· Data recording (information about cash vouchers) in database—on database server (any computer
excluding Operator Workstation);
· Processing and analyzing data — on Video Server.

The Operator Workstation will be used for video monitoring purposes and for working with the system
GUI.

Note. A distributed server-workstation configuration allows for a further increase of the computational
resources by adding servers targeted to each specific task.

Deploying Module

3 Deploying Module
The Module installation procedure consists of the following stages:
1. Checking system requirements of the servers and workstations (see Sections Server Requirements
To Install SecurOS POS Module and Operator Workstation and SecurOS POS Dedicated DB
Server Requirements).
2. Installing Hardware (e. g. video capture cards) on each server and connecting external hardware
(e.g. cameras).
3. Installing Module Software.

3.1 Installing Hardware

Types and number of video capture boards depend on used video cameras. When using the serial port
interface for connecting POS to the computer, you may experience a situation where the number of
serial ports are not enough. To resolve this issue the following types of communication devices may be
applied:
· multi-board serial ports (PCI-format);
· devices that use USB-interface platform (external USB-SERIAL converters);
· specialized computer board containing multiple serial controllers and coordination unit with the
PCI bus.

Note. Modifications of the boards differ in the number of ports and their parameters. The number of ports is
determined by the number of POS terminals.

3.1.1 Cameras

The video cameras have to be installed directly next to the POS Terminals. There should be POS
Terminals and neighbouring gangway in camera view. Note that it is recommended to set camera to
recognize goods type on conveyer. Keep in mind the possibility of obstruction of the conveyor and the
cash desk by the cashier.

There are some guidelines for choosing and setting up video cameras and POS Terminals.

· Lens type. It is helpful to use cameras with auto-zoom lenses. The upper limit of the focal length
must be more then 80 mm. These lenses allow you to get contrast images from any distances.

www.issivs.com
SecurOS POS 13 User Guide
Deploying Module

Figure 2. Camera Zoom Setup Example

Set up the aperture to reach the result when bar-code scanning area, a part of conveyer and POS
Terminals are in camera view.
· Camera features. Additional camera features: auto focus and auto shaking compensation should be
disabled.
· Enabling/ disabling the auto-iris function.. On constant lighting conditions out-of-diaphragm
objective or with manual tuning one can be used. On variable lighting (e. g. when POS Terminals
are close to windows) use cameras with auto-aperture. Auto-aperture may be used when there are
no quick brightness changes within the camera view. In other cases, this feature has to be turned
off.

To setup the iris diaphragm:

1. Turn the objective to auto-aperture mode.
2. Almost shade the camera aperture.
3. Make some snap-shots.
4. Watch the created images from the video-archive. If these images are blurry, slightly open the
aperture and repeat the procedure.

3.1.2 POS Terminals

Depending on POS Terminal type and its software the following connections to the security network
are possible:
· Connecting to Free Terminal Port;
· Connecting to Cash Voucher Printer Port;
· Connecting via Local Net.

3.1.2.1 Connecting to Free Terminal Port

This connection type is valid if POS Terminal has a free serial port and cash voucher text can be
duplicated via this port.

To implement this scheme, connect a POS Terminal serial port to server one.

Note. Cash voucher printer is connected to one POS Terminal COM port and computer — to another.

Figure 3. Connecting to Free Terminal Port

3.1.2.2 Connecting to Cash Voucher Printer Port

This connection type is valid if it is impossible to use POS Terminal serial port.

Note. Be sure that your cash voucher printer supply RS-232 interface and there is a text format of data
communications.

Figure 4. Connecting to Cash Voucher Printer Port

3.1.2.3 Connecting via Local Net

This connection type is valid if POS Terminals can send cash voucher text via local net by using TCP/IP
protocol.

On applying this scheme printer is connected to its POS Terminal via COM port, and computer — via
local net.

Note. Be sure that there is a free port in local net router. Also check POS Terminals configuration parameters
for sending cash voucher data.

· Amount — commodity price/receipt total sum;

Note. Amount marked negative means merchandise return. When commodity is returned the appropriate
event is added to the receipt. Rows which correspond with the returned commodity (and receipt) are
highlighted with the contrast background (for example, see figure 23).

· Discount — discount for the commodity/receipt;

· Cashier — cashier personal data (for example, cashier name);
· Discount card — discount card ID;
· Barcode — commodity barcode (in numeric form);
· Comment — arbitrary comment for sale.

The table can also displays events both not related to the receipt (for example, cashier authorization,
etc.) and elating to the receipt (for example, returns of commodity). Each event is marked in the table
with the icon (see figure 24).

List of fields displayed in the table is configured by operator with the help of context menu. Context
menu is called by right clicking on the table head (see figure 24).

commodity lists are increased in real-time). On any record selection monitor will display the “stop
frame” of the POS Terminal operation and Information window will display the corresponding
commodity detailed information (active observation);
· Automatic mode (the Auto mode button is pressed) — live video. A new record of a new
commodity moves to the beginning of the list. There is the POS Terminal operation on the video
monitor. Information window displays the current commodity detailed information. This is a
passive observation.
