Ahead of the Curve

W ith precision manufactured, next-generation arch forms, and a range of

metal types that apply the appropriate force at each stage of treatment, VIA
Wires signal the evolution in orthodontic arch wires.
Next-Generation Arch Forms
In developing VIA Wires’ next-generation arch forms, Dr. Richard McLaughlin
drew on his 30 years of clinical experience and research, as well as his philosophy
that proper arch form selection is integral to predictable, patient-friendly treatment.
He developed a two-part system to identify appropriate arch form shape in
early treatment, and customize arch form shape in later treatment.

Next-Generation Arch Forms

1 First Stage (for round and nickel titanium rectangular wires)

VIA Wires arch form templates help to identify and maintain proper
arch form throughout the early stages of treatment:

• Determine proper arch form by placing clear templates

over lower arch model or printout of 3D model.

• Note selected arch form in patient record.

• Use white templates chairside to adjust arch wires to exact

arch form. The printed grid helps to ensure symmetry
when adjusting arch wires.

2 Second Stage (for beta titanium or stainless steel rectangular wires)
In the later stages of treatment, customize arch form shape to match the
patient’s natural anatomy:

• Take a wax indentation of lower arch (including brackets) and customize

rectangular stainless steel or beta titanium wires to the exact patient arch form.

• Place formed wire over a photocopy of the original patient model to confirm
that original arch form has been maintained.

• Make a photocopy of the custom-formed wire and save in patient records

as the new chairside template.
APPROPRIATE FORCES
VIA Wires are available in a range of metal types for the appropriate force
at each stage of treatment.

Heat Activated NiTi —

Heat Activated Nickel Titanium (NiTi) wires comfortably level
and align tough cases with easy engagement and low forces:
· Lowest recovery forces for gentle movement

· Becomes dead soft when chilled below 20°C and achieves

optimum activation at 37°C

· Etched centerline

· Ideal for easier bracket engagement

· Individually sealed wires in autoclaveable package

Super Elastic NiTi —

Super Elastic NiTi wires level and align cases without
fear of distortion:
· Low recovery forces for gentle movement

· Full shape recovery with less distortion

· Extremely elastic for easy placement and gentle recovery

· Individually sealed wires in autoclaveable package

Beta Titanium —
Beta Titanium wires finish cases with medium forces and easier engagement:
· Moderate force values bridge the gap between Nickel Titanium and
Stainless Steel

· Made of beta titanium III alloy, the latest technology in titanium metals

· Contains no nickel

· 45% less force levels than stainless steel wires

· Individually sealed wires in autoclaveable package

Stainless Steel —
Stainless Steel wires deliver the highest force values for
a perfect finish:
· High force values ideal for finishing cases

· Made of 304v medical grade stainless steel

· Precision formed for precise force values and arch form

· Individually sealed wires in autoclaveable package

Precision Manufacturing
VIA Wires are manufactured with precision and care. They are
mechanically polished for smoother sliding action, and laser
inspected for shape and size accuracy. Each arch wire is
tested for arch form exactness, and each batch is tested for
precise force-values.

The rigorous manufacturing and quality control steps ensure

performance and predictability—every wire, every time.
