CLARA BARTON

Clara barton was born on December 25,1821 in Oxford (Massachusetts)


And she was died on April 12,1912 in Glen Echo (Maryland).
She was an American nurse, teacher and humanitarian.
She was a very good student.
Sarah Stone and Stephen Barton were his parents .
His father was a farmer and horse breeder and her mother was manage
houseolde.
They was abolitionists and participated in the founding of the 1 st universalist
church of oxford.

At only 11 years old, Clara barton takes care of her injured brother for two
years.
It’s the reason that made her went to become a nurse.
She started to study but was not successful because she felt the need to help
others peoples .

During the Civil War, like many others women at this time, she volunteered to
treat wounded soldiers.
After the first battle of “Bull Run” in April 1861, she decided to found a
company for the acquisition and distribution of medical equipement for
wounded soldiers.
In 1863 she participated of the creation of the “international Committee for the
Relief of Wounded Soldiers”,renamed in 1876, “International Committee of the
Red Cross”.

She published a book called “the red cross and the convention of Geneve”
which describes the objectives of the red cross.
The first building of the red cross was built in Washington ,near the “White
House”.
After 20 years of presidency at the red cross she puts an end to her functions.

At 86 years she founded the first social assistance society.


She suffred from depression and in 1912 she died at the age of 90.

For commemorate is death,some batiments was renamed : schools in New


Jersey,in oxford and at Brooklyn, university in lowa state.
