The Wallace and Weber lines are imaginary lines that separate
species found in Southeast Asia and Australia and Papua New
Guinea. The Wallace line runs through Indonesia, including the
Lombok Strait between Bali and Lombok and the Makassar Strait
between Borneo and Sulawesi. The Weber line runs between the
Maluku Islands and Papua Island and between East Nusa Tenggara

The production of bauxite at 22.49 million tonnes in
2021-22 decreased by 10.37% compared to the previous
year. Four major companies, namely NALCO (33.12%),
Utkal Alumina International Limited (26.67%), Odisha
Mining Corporation (13.34%), HINDALCO (9.64%)
dominated the total mining activities of bauxite of the
country in 2021-22. Odisha accounted for 73.13% of the
total output of bauxite during 2021-22 followed by
Gujarat 8.97%, Jharkhand 8.04%, Chhattisgarh 4.30%,
Maharashtra 2.85%, and Madhya Pradesh 2.71%.
