Exterior Design

Awesome!
You designed the inside and it looks great!
But--you need to decorate the outside.

BE CAREFUL with your coloring!

-ONLY USE crayons or colored pencils.
-Markers could bleed through and ruin the inside--no leaky house!
-Look at some pictures of treehouses to see what the outsides look like.

WINDOWS and DOORS

-If you are up to the challenge, try cutting out where you have windows.
-Be patient and work slow. Doors are easier, but windows take time.

OUTDOOR SIDING
-Decide what kind of exterior you want for your treehouse.
-Color it or add designs...just be creative.

-slide
-rope swing
-zip line
-trap door
-indoor furniture
-ladder (rope/wood)
-climbing wall
-escape route
Your options are unlimited, so take your time
-adding sections together
as you create them. You will be amazed at
how much of a difference the littlest detail
makes.

The Little Things
Building Furniture
It’s time to build your furniture by creating three dimensional shapes.
Use two provided graphing sheets to create your own.

First: Decide what 3D items you’d like

to make for each treehouse section.

second: 3D (three dimensional) means

you’ll have to design on all the sides.

Third: Don’t cut out the net until you are

sure you have enough paper marked off. Map
out what you need. For this couch, I would cut out
on my dotted line and tape
fourth: Tape your shapes together. the 4 sides together.

You can try glue, but it might not work

as well.

fifth: DON’T get discouraged! This is a very This will take

difficult element of design. PRACTICE and Patience!

Up In The Air
If you’ve built a treehouse...you’ve got to get it in the trees. Right? Well, kind of.
Read the options below and choose what will work for you.

Trees/Plants
If you have access to trees or plants, set up your treehouse in those and see how it looks.

Cardboard Rolls
Glue or tape your treehouse to the outside or on top of a cardboard roll. Use paper towel
rolls, wrapping paper, or toilet paper rolls. Then you can color in the roll to look like a tree.
You’ll need to decide how you want to hang it, with tape and glue being two
good options.

Shoebox
Turn a shoebox sideways and stand it up. Decorate the outside. Add tape to the
back of the treehouse walls and stick them along the shoebox.

On the Walls
Add tape to the back of the treehouse section walls and stick them on walls or bulletin
boards. Turn the treehouses into a gigantic community that runs along classroom walls or
hallways. Can you make every section connect?
