INTRO
Invite three volunteers to join you on stage. Each player will complete a challenge Supplies Needed:
to do a normal everyday task but with a different part of the body than usual. Cereal, bowl, milk, bread,

Play the game time music as players each complete their challenge at the same
time. When complete, interview each player asking them, “Was it easy to complete
this challenge? Is there an easier way to do this task? What parts of the body would
you usually use to do this?”
It’s really hard to do basic everyday things using part of the body that wasn’t made to
do that action. Each part of the body has a purpose, it is designed by God especially
to play its part. Our eyes are made to see, our mouth to speak, eat and breathe, our
hands to write and make things. When we tried to do something using a different
part of the body, making it do something it wasn’t made to do, it was hard and it

was messy!
Romans 12:4-6 (NLT) “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a
special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and
we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing
certain things well.” We are like parts of the body, we each have a special job to do,
something God has designed us for. God has given us different gifts. These might
be gifts like leading others, singing, building, making things, helping people, praying
or preaching. There’s certain things you can do well, because God has made you that
way. God wants to work through each of us. When we allow God to use us, we are
like a body with all parts fulfilling their purpose, we’re better together!

Let’s practice first. (Say each word in a random order as the children do the actions.)
One of the most important points that God is making all through the Bible is that
people work better together HAND in HAND rather than alone. It was not good for
Adam to be alone in the garden; we are told that two are better than one, because
they have a good reward for their work in Ecclesiastes; And in Romans “Since we are
all one BODY in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.”
You know the saying, two HEADs are better than one!
Back in the book of Exodus God was giving instructions to Moses about how to
build a Temple. Listen to what He said, “I have chosen Bezalel, the son of Uri. I have
filled him with the Spirit of God. I have filled Bezalel’s HEAD with wisdom, with
understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skill. He can make beautiful
patterns in gold, silver and bronze with his HANDS. He can cut and set stones. He
can work with wood. In fact, he can work in all kinds of crafts.”
God had given Bezalel gifts and talents, the right HEAD and HANDS and knew that
he was the perfect man to complete this work. The Bible explains in 1 Corinthians
12 There are different kinds of gifts given to everyBODY. But they are all given to
believers by the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve. But they all come
from the same Lord. All throughout the Bible God works through different kinds of
people, sure we know the big names like Moses and Abraham and King David, but
here we have Bezalel an ordinary man with a talent that God used. God used Bezalel’s
gifts to build a temple, a house for God.
We have been given gifts to build the house of God too. Each of us have different
gifts that work together. Just as a BODY, though one, has many parts, but all its
many parts form one BODY, so it is with Christ.
Now if the FEET should say, “Because I am not a HAND, I do not belong to the BODY,”
it would not for that reason stop being part of the BODY. And if the EAR should say,
“Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the BODY,” it would not for that reason
stop being part of the BODY. If the whole BODY were an eye, where would the sense
of hearing be? What would the ear do? If the whole BODY were an ear, where would
the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the BODY, every one of

them, just as He wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the BODY
be? As it is, there are many parts, but one BODY.
The eye cannot say to the HAND, “I don’t need you!” And the HEAD cannot say to
the FEET, “I don’t need you!”. They all need each other! Those parts of the BODY that
seem to be weaker, and the parts that we think are less important we must treat
with special honour. God has put the BODY together, for all parts to work together.
The HAND, the FEET, the HEAD, the ear and the eye. Now you are the BODY of Christ,
and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Peter 4:10 (NIRV) “God’s gifts of grace come in
many forms. Each of you has received a gift in order to serve others. You should use
it faithfully.” God gives us spiritual gifts in our life with Jesus, so in our life we can
play our part in building His kingdom.

MY FAVOURITE VERSE
I have a favourite verse about God giving us gifts. It reminds me that God wants to
work through me to help others. Would you like me to share this very amazing Bible
verse with you? (Get response.)
This is from Ephesians 4:7 (CEV) “Christ has generously divided out his gifts to us.”
God wants to work through you. And that is my favourite verse about God giving us
gifts, I think it might become one of your favourites as well.

SUMMARY
Play a game of Simon Says, saying your own name instead of “simon”. Have the
children copy different actions using parts of their body. They should copy your
actions any time you say your name before the action e.g. “__________ (your name),
says put your hands on your head.” If you don’t say your name before the action, the
children shouldn’t copy you.
The Church is like a body, it is made up of many parts. You are a part of the body of
Christ and you have a place to belong. 1 Corinthians 12:27 (NIV) “Now you are the
body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” Our human body can do amazing
things! It can run, jump, dance, think, feel, draw, play music, build things… It can
do almost anything! When all the parts of a body work together, it can do amazing
things! God gives us gifts in our life with Jesus, so we can play our part in building
His kingdom. God wants to work through you.

PRAYER
Dear God,
Help us to discover what gifts and talents You’ve given to each of us. Thank You that
we can play our part in the body of Christ.
